Full Job Description
Ulland Brothers has an immediate opening for the position of Safety Director - Southern Operations. This position is responsible for leading and administering the safety function for Ulland Brothers' southern Minnesota operations and will office in Albert Lea.

Reports To:General Manager/Executive Vice President - Southern Operations

The Safety Director will work closely with Southern Operations management, project managers, superintendents, foremen, employees, and company leadership to promote a safe and healthy working environment for employees, subcontractors, vendors, and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visible, hands-on safety leadership throughout Southern Operations, including regular visits to project sites, asphalt and aggregate operations, maintenance shops, and company facilities.
  • Promote employee safety through training, field safety inspections, safety reports, site visits, and participation in industry-related safety education.
  • Lead the implementation and administration of Ulland Brothers' safety requirements and programs within Southern Operations.
  • Participate in the evaluation and development of company safety policies and procedures and recommend improvements to executive management.
  • Identify unsafe conditions or practices and work directly with operations management to ensure appropriate corrective action is taken.
  • Exercise authority to stop work when an imminent safety hazard exists and immediately coordinate with the appropriate operational leadership to address the condition.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, equipment damage, near misses, and non-compliance with company safety policies in coordination with the appropriate managers and employees.
  • Coordinate with claims adjusters, investigators, insurance representatives, and other appropriate parties following workplace incidents.
  • Assemble, report, and maintain required safety information for local, state, and federal agencies, customers, insurance companies, and company management.
  • Monitor applicable OSHA, MSHA, and other local, state, and federal safety standards and regulations and ensure Southern Operations complies with those requirements.
  • Coordinate workers' compensation and general liability matters involving Southern Operations with company management, insurance carriers, medical providers, employees, and legal counsel as appropriate.
  • Assist company leadership in evaluating insurance, claims, loss-control, and risk-management matters affecting Southern Operations.
  • Work collaboratively with the safety leadership of Northern Operations to promote consistency in company-wide safety standards, policies, training, and practices.
  • Communicate significant safety concerns, recurring deficiencies, regulatory matters, and other material safety issues to the General Manager/Executive Vice President - Southern Operations.
  • Recommend corrective or disciplinary action when appropriate for violations of company safety requirements, with employment and disciplinary decisions made in accordance with established company authority.
  • Follow and enforce company policies.

  • Ability to work independently and interact effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulations applicable to Ulland Brothers' operations.
  • Experience in highway-heavy construction, aggregate, asphalt, or a related construction environment is preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to regularly travel to projects, plants, shops, and other Southern Operations locations.
