Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Yamato Steel is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Safety Director. This key leadership role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously enhancing comprehensive safety and health programs that promote a safe work environment, ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, and reinforce a culture where safety is the highest priority. The Safety Director will provide strategic leadership for the division's safety initiatives, partnering with teammates, contractors, and leadership to achieve world-class safety performance and serve as a visible and influential advocate for safety and health throughout the division and as an active member of Nucor's corporate safety team. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Leading the division's commitment to becoming the world's safest steel company

Evaluating the effectiveness of safety programs and procedures, monitoring compliance systems, identifying and mitigating risks, and driving continuous improvement across all areas of the organization

Identifying and implementing innovative safety technologies and best practices that support continuous improvement

Leading incident investigations and root cause analyses

Overseeing accident and injury prevention efforts

Overseeing safety recordkeeping and regulatory reporting requirements

Monitoring safety performance metrics, and preparing reports and presentations for leadership

Managing all aspects of the Safety and Health Department, including budget administration, strategic planning, long-term vision, and teammate development

Developing and implementing safety policies, programs, and initiatives that drive operational excellence and regulatory compliance.

Building strong relationships throughout the organization to foster engagement, accountability, and a proactive safety culture

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field (or) four years of equivalent experience

3 or more years of leadership/supervisory experience in an industrial setting, including direct responsibility for leading the safety performance of their team(s)

Occupational Safety: Applies knowledge of equipment, policies, and regulations to ensure compliance and continuously improve safety of all individuals.

Communication: Gives full attention to others and communicates clearly so information is understood. delivers clear and effective reports and presentations that drive safety-related action.

Leadership Presence and Courage: Confidence and credibility to raise to have direct conversations on critical issues; addresses conflict constructively and head-on; steps up to hold self and others accountable for regulatory compliance, goals, and metrics.

Problem Solving & Judgment/Decision Making: Identifies problems and evaluates options to choose the most appropriate solution.

Coaching and Developing Others: Identifies strengths and developmental needs; coaches, mentors, and trains others to improve their skills.

Teamwork: Works as part of a coordinated effort to achieve a common goal. Builds trusted partnerships with teammates, contractors, leadership, and the corporate safety team to achieve shared safety goals.

Innovation & Technology Adoption: Evaluates and champions new safety programs, technologies industry best practices and technologies balancing data with practical, on-the-floor implementation and buy-in.

Preferences:

Certification(s) such as CSP, CHST, or OHST

Knowledge of OSHA regulations, industrial hygiene, and testing; experience with OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program

Experience implementing or piloting safety-related technology
