NOTE: This position can be located Denver, CO, Rapid City, SD or El Paso, TX.What you will do:Serve as a leader in GCC's safety organization, responsible for advancing safety programs and supporting effective implementation of safety practices. The Safety Director provides proactive leadership, guidance, and strategic support to drive safe and reliable operations, while acting as a change leader, advisor, and coach to strengthen safety culture across the organization. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.
Main Responsibilities- Provide leadership and direction for safety programs and drive the strategy to build and sustain a strong safety culture.
- Partner with operations leadership to integrate safety into business planning, execution, and decision-making processes.
- Support improvements in safety performance through identification and reduction of exposures and risk mitigation.
- Coordinate and manage multiple priorities across functions and organizational levels to ensure alignment and execution.
- Lead the development and implementation of safety policies, systems, procedures, and programs.
- Ensure consistent identification, assessment, and control of safety and health risks related to equipment, materials, processes, facilities, and work activities.
- Identify gaps in training, capability, and performance, and support the business in developing and implementing effective solutions.
- Monitor industry trends and regulatory developments; proactively adapt strategies and programs accordingly.
- Drive organizational accountability for safety performance through clear expectations, communication, and follow-up.
- Lead, coach, and develop safety managers to build organizational capability and ensure consistency in safety performance and execution.
- Influence and engage employees at all levels to ensure effective implementation of safety programs.
- Serve as a key interface with regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with all applicable legal requirements and company policies
Required Education:Travel Requirements:Knowledge, Experience and Skills:- 10+ years related experience.
- 7+ years' experience with MSHA, OSHA, FMCSA, or a combination
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must have supervisory skills to include planning, organizing, hiring, promoting scheduling, coaching, team building, developing subordinates, conflict resolution, directing activities of employees, administering personnel actions
- Must be skilled in creative problem solving, interpersonal communications, conflict
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to focus on details and understand the overall impact of events and decisions.
- Willingness and proven experience in leading, managing and communicating through change effectively.
- Ability to make independent judgments to manage and facilitate company programs/policies as they relate to the safety of our workforce.
- Must possess intermediate-level computer skills to include proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of software and the ability to quickly learn and use a variety of ES&H tools.
