The
Web Engineer is responsible for building, shipping, and continuously improving production web applications that support Stanbridge University's Learning Management System (LMS) and related institutional platforms, built primarily with
Laravel (PHP 8.x) and
Vue.js (Vue 3).
We're looking for engineers who love building software, shipping production-ready features, and continuously improving how software gets built. Working within an established platform architecture, this role delivers secure, scalable, and maintainable software that enhances the experience of students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
This is not a people-management role. Impact is measured through shipped software, engineering throughput, reduced delivery cycle time, code quality, and meaningful improvements to the student, faculty, and administrative experience.
Remote applicants are encouraged to apply. Candidates located within or near Stanbridge University's Southern California campus footprint who can participate in occasional on-campus collaboration are strongly valued.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesSoftware Delivery & Engineering Execution- Build, ship, test, and maintain production web applications using Laravel (PHP 8.x) and Vue.js (Vue 3).
- Deliver complete, production-ready features that improve the experience of students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Own assigned work from implementation through testing, deployment, and production support.
- Build reusable Laravel services, REST APIs, Vue components, and shared engineering libraries that accelerate future development.
- Deliver software in small, reliable increments with a focus on quality, maintainability, accessibility, and performance.
- Improve existing applications through thoughtful refactoring, performance optimization, and continuous enhancement.
- Integrate internal and third-party enterprise systems using REST/JSON APIs with resilient error handling.
- Build responsive, accessible user interfaces aligned with WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards.
Engineering Velocity & Modern Development Practices- Continuously improve software delivery through automation, reusable engineering patterns, and modern development practices.
- Use AI-assisted development tools, AI agents, and workflow automation where they provide measurable improvements in implementation, testing, debugging, documentation, and code review.
- Build reusable development assets-including templates, testing utilities, repository context, prompt libraries, and engineering documentation-that reduce repetitive work and improve team productivity.
- Identify repetitive engineering tasks and simplify them through automation, standardization, and practical use of AI-assisted development tools.
- Participate in code reviews that improve software quality, maintainability, readability, and engineering consistency.
- Stay current with emerging development tools and engineering practices that improve delivery speed without sacrificing quality or security.
Quality, Reliability & Security- Write clean, maintainable, production-ready software.
- Develop automated tests using PHPUnit, Pest, Playwright, Cypress, or equivalent frameworks.
- Participate in GitHub-based workflows and CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or equivalent tooling.

- Apply secure coding practices aligned with OWASP recommendations, including input validation, authorization, dependency management, and secure handling of sensitive information.
- Follow university data handling policies and FERPA requirements when developing software and using engineering tools.
- Contribute to logging, monitoring, observability, and continuous operational improvements.
Continuous Improvement- Improve engineering workflows through reusable code, automation, documentation, and modern development practices.
- Contribute ideas that increase developer productivity and reduce engineering friction.
- Share knowledge through collaboration, code reviews, documentation, and technical mentoring.
- Help build an engineering culture focused on craftsmanship, accountability, continuous learning, and reliable software delivery.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications- 5+ years of experience building and shipping production web applications in a SaaS or enterprise environment.

Preferred Qualifications- Experience developing or supporting Learning Management Systems (LMS), Student Information Systems (SIS), educational technology platforms, or other enterprise web applications supporting higher education.
- Experience working in healthcare, education, or other regulated environments.
- Experience building reusable component libraries, shared services, or internal developer tooling.
- Experience with Docker, Redis, AWS, Vite, GitHub Actions, or modern Laravel development tooling.
- Experience improving developer productivity through automation, reusable engineering patterns, or AI-assisted development workflows.
