Job Description

United States Steel Corporation is seeking an S&OP Systems Administrator to provide technical support for the advanced planning functions within the Sales & Operations Planning organization supporting the North American Flat Rolled Products business (NAFR). This role is the primary technical resource for demand planning and carries technical responsibilities across all Quintiq products, and other joint IT projects. The S&OP Systems Administrator will collaborate with various departments including Commercial, Plant Planning, Marketing, Manufacturing, Outside Processing, Finance, and IT. The key responsibilities include:
  • Technical ownership of demand planning solution, including system set-up to accommodate forecast capture and analysis for various aspects of business use, statistical parameter tuning, data integrity, and troubleshooting of end-user interactions.
  • Translation of business requirements into system configuration for IT developers and training end users on planning system functionality.
  • Continuous technical support of the Quintiq planning platform, including maintenance, upgrades, and supporting data transmission requirements to external systems such as Oracle EBS, OAC and plant systems.
  • Evaluation of upgrades/system changes and ability to create thorough test plans, test data set up and perform testing to meet implementation exit criteria.
  • Partner with IT and the software vendor/implementation partner to troubleshoot defects, validate releases in test environments, and manage the technical enhancement backlog.
  • Support technical responsibilities across all Quintiq products - Demand Planner, Macro Planner, and Company Planner - and serve as a technical resource on new projects and implementations as needed.
  • Develop and modify relevant KPIs to measure and track performance progress of the implemented solutions.
  • Provide input to the vision and roadmap for supporting advanced planning tools in the future.
  • Document technical processes and produce clear end-user instructions and training materials.
  • Participate in enterprise strategic loading plans.
  • Seek opportunities to incorporate AI and digitization into day-to-day business practices.
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • BA/BS in Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience supporting Sales and Operations Planning and demand planning systems in a technical or functional-technical capacity, including statistical forecasting models and/or linear programming.
  • Hands-on technical experience with Quintiq (Demand Planner, model configuration, macro/scripting) or a comparable advanced planning system.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, data interface and transmission troubleshooting
  • Ability to architect thorough test plans and test data.
  • Familiarity with reporting tools like Oracle OAC, Tableau, and strong Excel skills.
  • Strong understanding of supply chain management principles and manufacturing performance metrics.
  • Strategic thinker with a result-oriented approach and steel production familiarity.
  • Ability to gather, manipulate, and analyze data to make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to document technical processes and author clear end-user instructions.
  • Clear, effective communication with both technical and business audiences.
  • Strong cross collaboration skills and the ability to build partnerships.
Business Contribution/Impact & Leadership:
  • Models a forward-thinking, strategic approach to enterprise planning process.
  • Participates in or leads technical workstreams for projects within Sales & Operations Planning.
  • Serves as the technical escalation point for demand planning users across the S&OP organization.
