Full Job Description
The Routing and Analytics Manager is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of route optimization and performance analytics across LRS's residential, commercial, and industrial waste and recycling services. This role ensures efficient and effective route planning to enhance customer service, reduce operational costs, and maximize resource utilization. The ideal candidate will leverage data, mapping technology, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive routing strategies that support the company's growth, sustainability goals, and service excellence.

Reports To: Chief Operations Officer

  • Design and manage daily and long-term route planning strategies using routing software (e.g., RouteSmart, FleetMind, or similar platforms).
  • Analyze historical and real-time data to identify routing inefficiencies and develop solutions to improve service performance and reduce fuel consumption and vehicle wear.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Dispatch, Customer Experience, and Sales teams to ensure alignment on routing strategies, service schedules, and customer expectations.
  • Monitor KPIs such as route productivity, missed pickups, time-on-route, and drive-time efficiency to identify trends and inform operational decisions.
  • Lead or participate in routing audits, service change reviews, and periodic territory realignments.
  • Provide data-backed recommendations on equipment and staffing needs based on routing demands and customer volume.
  • Train drivers, dispatchers, and supervisors on route changes and the use of routing tools and dashboards.
  • Maintain and ensure the accuracy of GIS and mapping data, including customer locations, service zones, and traffic conditions.
  • Produce and present reports, dashboards, and executive summaries for operational leadership on routing performance and opportunities.
  • Partner with IT and software vendors to continuously improve routing systems, data integration, and reporting capabilities.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.


Scope of Responsibility:

This role directly influences operational efficiency, cost containment, customer satisfaction, and fleet productivity. It may lead a small team or serve as a key subject matter expert within the enterprise. The position requires a high degree of initiative, analytical rigor, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with Company policies and applicable laws. Has approval-level input regarding hiring, terminations, disciplinary actions, performance management, as well as assessing the needs of the department and/or functional area.
  • Manages Route Auditors (~1-3)


Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge of routing and dispatch systems, GPS fleet tracking, and transportation management software.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and develop actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or similar analytics/reporting tools.
  • Experience with GIS/mapping tools such as ArcGIS, Google Maps API, or similar platforms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to convey complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Solid understanding of waste and recycling industry operations is highly preferred.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to lead initiatives from concept to execution.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.


Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in routing, logistics planning, or operational analytics, preferably within the waste, recycling, or transportation industry.
  • Experience with large-scale route optimization and change management strongly preferred.


Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear, both in person and by phone or web meetings.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to read and interpret data on a computer screen or printed documents.
  • Work is performed in a typical office environment with moderate noise levels, in a climate-controlled environment with heating and air conditioning.
  • Potential for remote work or hybrid work arrangement.
  • Occasionally does site visits to operational locations and may be required to do ride-alongs with route drivers.
  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 25 pounds as needed.


Travel Required:

Some travel required up to approximately 20% of the time to LRS sites or vendor locations, primarily within the Midwest.
