JOB SUMMARY

The Rotor Department Lead - Engineered Products position will perform and oversee a variety of tasks on turbomachinery components and assemblies to ensure compliance with specifications and quality requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Leads a team of Rotor Technicians by assigning daily tasks, setting priorities, and ensuring efficient workflow to meet production goals in the Rotor Shop
  • Oversees Phase I & Phase II inspections, as well as final build / balance on new and used Rotating Elements (and sub-components) for RMS and non-OEM turbomachinery including Axial, Single Stage Overhung, Horizontally and Vertically Split Multi-Stage, and Oil Free Screw Compressors; Hot Gas Expanders; Steam Turbines; and other rotating equipment as needed
  • Collaborates with Management and Engineering teams to drive On-Time Delivery (OTD), resolve technical issues, and trouble shoot equipment or process challenges as needed
  • Communicates effectively with coworkers, cross-functional teams, and customers to ensure alignment and successful project execution
  • Trains and mentors Rotor Technicians, developing team capability and closing skill gaps
  • Promotes a positive attitude, accountability, and a results-driven mindset focused on meeting deadlines while maintaining high quality standards
  • Proficient in balancing and experienced in operating Schenck 980 Cabs driving 5K, 15K, and 70K balance machines
  • Expert at precision measuring, pre-stack dimensional inspections, and pre / post overspeed inspections
  • Knowledgeable of Rotor Shop subcomponents, including impellers, sleeves, balance pistons, shafts, etc.
  • Performs detailed visual inspections and mentors less experienced technicians on identifying critical findings
  • Capable of safely handling and manipulating large rotors (20,000+ lbs) for assembly or disassembly
  • Coordinates daily activities and allocates manpower to maintain production targets
  • Participates in root cause failure analysis and recommends effective repair methods and procedures
  • Coordinates material movement between work areas and shipping / receiving
  • Notifies Quality and Production Manager of non-conformity and drives timely resolution
  • Analyzes current and future workload capacity and adjusts priorities as needed
  • Performs final testing and inspection as required
  • Maintains a clean, organized and safe work environment while promoting 5S principles
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to safety and ensures compliance with all safety policies, procedures and instructions
  • Leads team efforts in housekeeping and continuous improvement initiates
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum ten years of experience with component assembly and dynamic balancing in turbo-machinery industry.

REQUIRED EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution.
  • Post High School degree in a mechanical related field is a plus.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • The position may be based in RMS's Pearland, TX facility.
  • This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Additional hours, including evenings or weekends may be required based on company and project needs.
  • This position can be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check.
  • Demonstrates a safety-first mindset, ensuring the well-being of self and coworkers at all times.
  • Communicates effectively with supervision, crafts, and customers throughout the inspection and repair process.
  • Exhibits strong organizational skills to manage tasks, priorities, and workflow efficiently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and lead effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Expert in use of precision measuring equipment (mic, caliper, etc.)
  • Able to understand, read, write and speak English.
  • Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. (with assistance), walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance.
  • Must be able to use hands for assembling and tool usage.
  • While performing the duties of this position the employee will be required to stand, sit, bend, and walk for significant portions of the shift.
  • Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals, including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug, alcohol screening, and background check.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • RMS Inc. may have government contracts that impose specific requirements on employees working on those projects. If an employee does not meet these requirements, they may be reassigned to a different location or be ineligible to work on certain assignments.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts in a machine-shop environment.
