Job Description:

Robotics & Digital Solutions, a part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting a Robotics Integration Engineer (Sustaining), located in Santa Clara, CA.

At J&J Robotics, we're changing the trajectory of health for humanity, using robotics to enhance healthcare providers' abilities and improve patients' diagnoses, treatments, and recovery times. J&J Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA™), Flexible Robotics (MONARCH®), and Digital Solutions. Join our collaborative, rapidly growing team where you'll create breakthrough medical technologies that unite multiple subject areas to build a connected digital ecosystem that advances medical professionals' skills and improves patient outcomes.

The Robotics Integration Engineer (Sustaining) will focus on lifecycle support of OTTAVA™ surgical robotics subsystems from manufacturing to field deployment, by conducting root cause analysis of failures through systematic investigation of failure mechanisms and collaborating with mechanical, electrical, robotics controls and software engineers to document and develop mitigations to critical issues and prevent issue recurrence in future system releases. This is an outstanding opportunity to craft OTTAVA™'s capabilities and shape the future of surgical robotics!

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Apply deep expertise in mechatronics and system-level approach to conduct root cause analysis of robotic subsystem failures
  • Document root cause analysis and mitigations for critical issues
  • Integrate, qualify, calibrate, and document replacements to end-of-life (EOL) hardware and software components
  • Integrate software/firmware updates and patches
  • Participate in test infrastructure development
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including service, operations, manufacturing, hardware, software, etc.

Qualifications:

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, or a related discipline) with 2+ years of relevant industry experience, OR an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a related engineering field with 1+ year of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience (academia or industry) prototyping, designing, debugging, integrating, and validating electromechanical systems with actuators and sensors.
  • Experience working with mechanical actuators, motors, and electrical sensors.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and/or C++ for programming, scripting, and modifying existing code.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., i.e., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually require future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this role unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.
  • Ability and willingness to work on-site in Santa Clara, California.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Experience analyzing the root cause of issues and decomposing complex engineering issues into solvable problems.
