Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager by executing project management responsibilities for respective disciplines
  • Provide design status updates to the Project Manager
  • Track budget for discipline tasks
  • Oversee sub-tasks within their discipline
  • Execute quality control and assurance plans as per the PMP
  • Delegate project tasks to team members
  • Coach and mentor design staff during the design process
  • Provide consultative services to clients, attending meetings and delivering solutions
  • Collaborate and manage project sub-consultants and teams
  • Conduct alternative studies and prepare reports for clients
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate engineering work phases
  • Utilize design software to execute project designs
  • Perform design checks and computations
  • Prepare contract plans, specifications, and estimates
  • Ensure alignment and project completion with internal team members
  • Provide technical oversight and support to Design Engineers

Job Description

Position summary: Responsible for leading the engineering design for tasks or sub-tasks in a specialized discipline by using basic project management and advanced knowledge of general engineering principles. Coordinates with design and other project engineers to efficiently complete project goals delivered on schedule, budget, and of quality.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Supporting overall Project Manager by executing project management responsibilities for respective discipline, including, developing hours estimates, scope, etc.
  • Provide design status updates to the Project Manager.
  • Track the budgets of discipline task(s).
  • Oversee sub-tasks within their respective discipline for a project.
  • Executing quality control and quality assurance plans as provided by the PMP for project.
  • Delegate project tasks to project team members.
  • Coaching/mentoring design staff through the design process.
  • Provide consultative services to the client(s), including attending client meetings, providing timely updates, and appropriate solutions to meet their expectations.
  • Collaborate and manage project sub-consultants and other internal disciplines
  • Perform alternative studies, evaluate impacts, develop and finalize reports for client.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
  • Design projects using advanced discipline knowledge, client specifications and guidelines using design software and drawing tools.
  • Perform or check design computations
  • Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure alignment and project completion by the defined deadline and established quality.
  • Technical oversight and guidance/support of Design Engineers within department

Nonessential functions and responsibilities:
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Required Experience

Qualifications required:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • 8 or 10+ years' experience in roadway and maintenance of traffic design
  • Professional Engineer License
  • Knowledge and understanding of Openroads Designer as follows:
    • Understanding of horizontal and vertical civil geometry
    • Understanding of 3D corridor modeling
    • Understanding of plan preparation and delivery
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Written and communication skills
  • Presentation skills

Qualifications preferred:
  • Experience working with FDOT, local clients at the county and state level
  • Knowledge and understanding of FDOT project delivery requirements as follows:
    • Understanding of FDOT Digital QC process
    • Understanding of FDOT design and quantity applications
    • Understanding of FDOT Digital Delivery and validation processes

Working Conditions:

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
