We are seeking a motivated and experienced Roadway Engineer with 5 to 10 years of roadway design experience to join our growing transportation team. This role is ideal for a self-driven professional who is eager to expand their technical expertise, take on increasingly complex challenges, and grow within a collaborative engineering environment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience delivering transportation projects for local public agencies and jurisdictions, with a strong understanding of roadway design standards, multidisciplinary coordination, and project delivery from planning through final design.
Responsibilities- Lead or support the planning, design, and delivery of a wide range of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects
- Prepare engineering plans, specifications, estimates, and technical reports for public agency projects
- Develop roadway geometric designs, grading plans, striping plans, signing plans, and traffic control concepts
- Coordinate with internal disciplines including traffic engineering, drainage, utility coordination, environmental, right-of-way, and construction support teams
- Participate in client meetings, technical workshops, and agency coordination efforts
- Assist with project schedule management, budget tracking, and quality control reviews
- Support proposal development, technical approaches, and scope preparation for transportation pursuits
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment
- Stay current with evolving design standards, agency requirements, and industry best practices
Requirements- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- 5-10 years of professional experience in roadway design
- Experience delivering transportation projects for cities, counties, and other public agencies
- Strong working knowledge of industry standards, including AASHTO Green Book, Caltrans Highway Design Manual (HDM), and CA MUTCD
- Proficiency with roadway design and modeling using AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced consulting environment
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and technically curious, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. California Professional Engineer (PE) license is not required; however, candidates who are licensed or actively pursuing licensure are strongly preferred
- Experience supporting a range of transportation projects, such as roadway improvements & re, multimodal corridors, active transportation facilities, traffic calming, ADA accessibility upgrades, and utility coordination
Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.
Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required.
Benefits- The typical base salary range for this position is $121,000.00 - $160,000.00, annualized depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is a salary position paid biweekly.
