We're always on the lookout for exceptional talent to join our team!Job SummaryResponsible for ensuring Halton's road system continues to operate at appropriate levels of service and assists in maintaining the network in a state of good repair. This position will provide customer-focused services to internal and external clients on matters relating to traffic operations, maintenance and road-related infrastructure.
Duties & Responsibilities- Conduct reviews, comment, and approval of permit applications (Entrance, Excavation, Road Occupancy, Oversize, and Special Events) and associated inspections as required.
- Lead all aspects of various road maintenance programs including guiderails, retaining / barrier walls, bridge / culverts, pavement markings, and Tourist-Oriented Directional Signing.
- Assist in the procurement process for various road maintenance programs and subsequent monitoring / inspections to ensure specifications and timelines.
- Implement and enforce the following by-laws within the regional road allowance: Access (32-17), Signs (36-01), Retail Sales (109-00) and Weed Control Act.
- Reviews and provides comments for internal and external stakeholders pertaining to design reviews and assessment.
- Assist with the asset management program for: roads, retaining walls, guiderails and bridges / culverts.
- Assist with the management of the Route Patrol manager system including completing on-site inspections to comply with Minimal Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways (Regulation 239/02).
- Review and resolve various external / internal road maintenance enquiries by conducting field investigations, coordinating repairs, and corresponding with road users/callers.
- Prepare road operations related memos and reports for Senior Management / Council.
- Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams that undertake internal and external projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & QualificationsEssential- Post-secondary graduate from a recognized college or university with a diploma or degree in Civil, Construction or Transportation Engineering.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience.
- Member in good standing with Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) - C. Tech or C.E.T. designation is preferred
- Practical knowledge in Civil / Traffic Engineering principles and Road Maintenance Practices.
- Knowledge of the OPS Standards, TAC Geometric Design Guide, Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) and Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
- Must have a good working knowledge of standard computer applications (e.g. MS Office, Siebel, and GIS applications)
- Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills are required.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and adapt quickly to change is required.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
Preferred- Experience with Route Patrol Manager.
Working/ Employment ConditionsWorking Conditions- Occasional work outside of Halton's core work hours.
- Must supply their own transportation at times to travel between locations within Halton Region.
Employment Conditions- The incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their driver's license by their first day of employment.
