POSITION SUMMARY:
The Surgical and Procedural Services Manager reports to the Senior Director of Perioperative Services and is a key management and leadership position within the organization. The Surgical Services Manager participates in development and implementation of performance improvement plans to provide quality nursing care that demonstrates positive outcomes in patient safety in the Surgical Services Department. Participates in the development and implementation of hospital policies and procedures, as well as making suggestions for revision of same. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. This position requires a sound knowledge of nursing practice and exceptional leadership abilities. The manager will ensure that operations are compliant with regulatory requirements, will adhere to budgetary guidelines and are in keeping with the Mission/Vision of the organization. This position, partnering with the Senior Director of Perioperative Services, has responsibility for, but not limited to, service line and departmental planning, creating a strategic growth plan, business development, managing direct reports, development as it relates to the capital and operating budget including: product-line development, budget calculations, report analysis and expense monitoring.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Current Licensure in the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN) or Bachelor's degree in health care/business related field required or enrolled in a BSN program with plan for completion.
- Current BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications are required.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Good written and verbal communication skills required.
- Bilingual - English/Spanish preferred.
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
- Six (5) years of professional nursing experience with proven progressive management experience and abilities preferably in procedural areas.
- Entry level leadership experience required (charge nurse, boardrunner, clinical coordinator)
- Demonstrates knowledge of operations and healthcare management; assures compliance with established Joint Commission Standards and state and federal laws and regulations.
- Demonstrates the ability to review and/or revise the Hospital's Nursing Department Policy and Procedures and facilitates review on Interdisciplinary Policy and Procedures.

- Promotes the facility's mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
- The Surgical Services Manager will participate in functional decision-making processes necessary to the successful attainment of the hospital's mission in addition to maintaining an awareness of changes in healthcare clinical matters that could have an impact on the success of the hospital.
- Assist maintaining necessary regulatory and compliance approvals and quality accreditations.
- Organizes and supervises personnel to provide effective and efficient patient care management. Demonstrates strong and effective managerial techniques/skills in established lines of authority.
- Maintains professional competence by participating in continuing education and other learning experiences.
- Addresses patient needs during admission to the operating room.
- Ensures that approved operating room procedures are followed to meet the requirements of scheduled procedures.
- Adapts to the needs of the unit by demonstrating flexibility/adaptability.
- Maintain Texas Department of Health (TDH), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and Joint Commission standards.
- Complete and update all employment requirements, including Health.edu, Employee Health, and Departmental Competencies, Credentials, etc.
- Creating an environment that will encourage recruiting and retention of clinical employees for Surgical Services Department.
- Assisting in managing costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and take action to eliminate non-value costs.
- Ensures that services meet members', physician and internal clients' needs in a changing, competitive health care market.
- Represent nursing services at meetings as deemed necessary; collaborates and participates with department heads in designing and providing quality patient care and services.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service to all DHR customers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to his or her age.
