Full Job Description
This job acts as a supervisor and provider of care at the point of care to individuals and cohorts of patients within a unit. Evaluates nursing interventions by coordinating, delegating and supervising care provided by the healthcare team of licensed nurses, registered nurses, and patient care technicians. Serves as a resource to staff for patient care assessment, planning, and evaluation of nursing interventions and facilitates problem resolution through collaboration with unit leadership and other supervisory staff. In collaboration with the immediate leader and other supervisory staff, identifies staff strengths and weaknesses and evaluating staff performance for team members within their span of control. Certifications Required – Current registered nurse (RN) license in state of practice. Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association. Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) 3 Knowledge of pharmacology and laboratory tests. 3 Ability to safely monitor patients throughout infusion therapy. 3 Ability to be self-directed. 3 Proficient in indicators of operational success such as unit productivity, expense management, regulatory requirements, and quality indicators. 3 Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications. 3 Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process. 3 Excellent organizational skills and ability to routinely manage priorities and projects involving multiple constituencies. 3 Excellent time management skills and ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities. 3 Ability to work in stressful situations and always remain objective and professional. Job Duties 3 Receives patients, explains procedures, checks vital signs, and administers therapy. 3 Monitors reactions and reports to physicians. 3 Handles emergency situations. 3 Provides infusion treatments such as hydration, administering drugs and solutions. 3 Organizes, plans, supervises, and provides coordinated patient care within the unit. 3 Supervises, develops, and evaluates assigned departmental staff nurses and technicians. 3 Promotes the adoption of nursing protocols and clinical practice guidelines to support evidence-based practice. 3 Manages conflict on assigned shifts and collaborates with other supervisors and unit leadership if further action is needed. 3 Collaborates with patient quality, safety, and experience leadership and promotes patient quality, safety, and experience processes. 3 Supports daily clinical operations on the unit by ensuring effective scheduling, staffing, and appropriate clinical supplies and resources are available for patient care. 3 Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style. 3 Performs other related duties as assigned. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases. The incumbent has an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases. Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
