Overview

Join our surgical services team as an Operating Room - Team Lead where you will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of the OR while helping drive excellence in patient care, staff development, and specialty service line performance.

 

In this leadership-focused clinical role, you will partner with the Director and Manager to ensure the efficient day-to-day operation of the Operating Room. Acting as a clinical resource and mentor for team members, you will support best practices, coordinate specialty-specific initiatives, and maintain a high standard of surgical care. The Clinical Coordinator must be able to perform all clinical responsibilities of an Operating Room Registered Nurse while serving as a subject matter expert within their assigned specialty.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and organize daily workflow within the assigned specialty to maximize productivity while maintaining high standards of quality, patient safety, and customer satisfaction.
• Serve as the specialty resource and subject matter expert, providing guidance, technical expertise, and support to nursing and surgical team members.
• Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of performance improvement initiatives using PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) methodology to enhance operational efficiency and patient outcomes.
• Monitor compliance with departmental policies, procedures, quality standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements, taking corrective action when needed.
• Assist with accreditation and regulatory readiness activities and support ongoing compliance monitoring within the department.
• Coordinate orientation and training programs for new team members, students, and existing staff, ensuring all required competencies and training checklists are completed.
• Oversee annual mandatory education requirements and competency assessments, ensuring completion and proper documentation.
• Collaborate with leadership to evaluate team member performance by providing feedback, identifying coaching opportunities, and supporting counseling or corrective action processes when appropriate.
• Assist leadership with the completion of initial and annual performance evaluations.
• Partner with department leadership to develop and deliver specialty-focused education programs, quality initiatives, safety programs, and performance improvement projects.
• Maintain expertise in specialty-specific procedures, equipment, supplies, and best practices while actively sharing knowledge with colleagues.
• Participate in the recruitment and interview process by evaluating candidates and providing feedback to hiring leaders.
• Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, continuous learning, and clinical excellence within the Operating Room.
• Support the operational success of the specialty by ensuring accurate procedure scheduling, preference card maintenance, equipment readiness, and supply availability.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years OR experience.
• Able to communicate effectively, pleasantly, cooperatively, and discretely with patients, physicians, team members, and the general public.
• Able to work under pressure and maintain patient confidentiality.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to relate well with people of diverse backgrounds, training and experience.
• Demonstration of creativity, initiative and problem solving.

Credentials

• RN - Registered Nurse
• BLS - Basic Life Saving certification

Education

• RN, Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
