OverviewRN Lead coordinates nursing activities for assigned clinical outpatient departments providing clinical expertise in the nursing process. RN Lead provides patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of our patients. The RN, in the ambulatory setting utilizes a systematic approach by incorporating assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the practice of nursing. Provides healthcare to individuals, families, and communities within the RN scope of practice as defined by the Illinois Board of Nursing. The patient population consists of individuals experiencing psychiatric conditions.
Responsibilities- Assist provider and other clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information preparing patient for examination, treatment.
- May be required to draw and collect blood and other samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Apply Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation within licensure guidelines).
- Telephone triage by providing and documenting advice for home care of illness/conditions; conducting follow-up phone calls regarding patient's health and progress as necessary.
- Schedule referrals for patients with specialist or outpatient as requested by the provider. Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing, including appropriate coding.
- Understand outpatient specialty procedures. Responsible for compliance with precertification requirements.
- Responsible for tracking system for follow-up appointments related to office visits, laboratory tests and procedures to regularly follow patients monitoring disease status.
- Provide appropriate and timely documentation in the patient's electronic health record using standardized workflows and processes.
- Supervision of delegated duties to LPN and CMA on approved clinical protocols.
- Maintain compliance with CLIA, OSHA, DNV, Safety and Risk Management guidelines.
- Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
- Provides nursing input for initiatives designed to improve the quality of care or clinical outcomes within psychiatry service delivery.
- Provides health and wellness education to patients and families using the Teach-back method per protocols and guidelines.
- Provides and facilitates competent health care of patients and families in area of practice. Ensures adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice.
- Monitoring and oversight of daily nursing workflow. This includes performing staff nurse duties to ensure adequate staffing and delivery of safe patient care.
- Monitoring of all nursing quality initiatives and process improvement activities in the department.
- Monitoring clinical patient schedules and completion of clinical chart prep.
- Guiding and conducting staff education, competencies, orientation and performance evaluations.
- Facilitates, leads and assists during crisis or safety events.
- Leading and facilitating monthly clinical staff meeting(s).
- Ensuring nursing and medical assistant staff are highly trained and maintaining BH clinical rooming standards.
- Monitoring and oversight of ordering department clinical supplies and equipment.
- Participate in the development and implementation of departmental and organizational policies/procedures and initiatives.
QualificationsCertifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
- Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)

Other RequirementsDemonstrates clinical competencies in providing direct patient care and patient and family education as well as assisting the provider in the delivery of patient care. Demonstrates leadership and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with others. Ability to multitask and prioritize is required. Possesses strong knowledge and skills in Epic EMR system. Demonstrates skills in education and training to improve the quality of nursing offered in the assigned departments.
Salary RangeThe compensation range for this position is $35.41per hour - $57.63per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
