Position Overview

Cincinnati Children's is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse Clinical Education Specialist II to support education, professional development, and clinical practice excellence within Outpatient Cardiology.

The Clinical Education Specialist II serves as a clinical expert and educator, partnering with nurses, providers, leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to promote evidence-based practice, enhance clinical competency, and support high-quality, patient- and family-centered care.

This role provides an exciting opportunity for an experienced pediatric nurse who is passionate about education, professional development, clinical practice, and improving outcomes for children and families with cardiac conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a clinical expert and resource for outpatient cardiology nursing practice.
  • Assess educational needs and develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for nurses and other clinical staff.
  • Facilitate orientation, onboarding, competency validation, and ongoing professional development for clinic and testing staff of all disciplines
  • Develop and maintain educational materials, clinical resources, and competency-based learning activities.
  • Partner with nursing leaders and interdisciplinary teams to identify opportunities to improve clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  • Promote evidence-based nursing practice and facilitate the integration of current research and best practices into clinical care.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and practice changes within Outpatient Cardiology.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify learning needs related to complex pediatric cardiac conditions, treatments, procedures, and care coordination.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to nurses as they develop clinical expertise and professional confidence.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and modify strategies based on outcomes and learner needs.
  • Participate in the development, review, and implementation of policies, procedures, standards, and clinical guidelines.
  • Support competency assessment and professional advancement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners to promote consistency and excellence in patient and family education.
  • Serve as a role model for professional nursing practice and Cincinnati Children's standards of care.
  • Contribute to organizational and department-based initiatives that advance pediatric nursing practice and patient outcomes.

Qualifications

Required:

BSN & master's degree in a related field

2+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Ohio
  • Progressive clinical nursing experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional nursing practice and clinical education
  • Strong communication, presentation, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop effective educational strategies for diverse learners
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams

Preferred:
  • Pediatric nursing experience
  • Cardiology or cardiac nursing experience
  • Previous experience in clinical education, professional development, precepting, or staff development
  • Experience with competency development, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, or professional advancement

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analysis- Collaborates and works closely with point of care education council, Education Consultant, and other educators to analyze and validate educational needs of individuals or groups within the point of care. Employs a formalized process to develop data collection and analysis methods to determine the educational needs of individuals/ groups at the point of care. Formal assessment of learning needs is completed at least once each year for the point of care.
  • Design and Outcomes- Assumes leadership role at the departmental level in planning, designing, and implementing educational initiatives to achieve expected outcomes at the point of care. Applies the ADDIE model to planned education in order to prescribe a variety of strategies, alternatives and resources to accomplish learning goals Partners with other point of care leaders to demonstrate effective resource management at the point of care.
  • Consultation and Implementation- Synthesizes information, provides consultation and feedback, both formal and informal, to influence the implementation of learning plans. Enhance the abilities of others to learn by identifying and removing barriers to learning. Institutes alternative learning opportunities at the point of care.
  • Evaluation- Designs and ensures a comprehensive evaluation of the education activity and evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes at the point of care level.
  • Professional Development- Demonstrates and maintains depth and breadth of clinical knowledge, skills and competence in the point of care setting. Assists at point of care to effectively provide education techniques to enhance learning at the point of care. Evaluates his/her own practice in relation to professional practice standards, guidelines, statues, rules and regulations.
