RN Assisted Living Director (SALSA)

Summary of Position: The ALSA Director is designated as the Supervisor of Assisted Living Services Agency (SALSA) for the CT AL licensure and is responsible for coordinating and managing all aspects of nursing and personal care services provided by ALSA staff to residents of the Assisted Living and Memory Care neighborhoods within the Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). The Director assumes overall responsibility of the community's clinical services and develops and implements measures and practices to ensure exceptional resident care, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, financial stewardship, and hospitality-focused resident experience. This position promotes person-centered care that supports independence, dementia-capable care in Memory Care while fostering a culture of compassion, respect, accountability, and excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Direct all clinical efforts for the assisted living and memory care environments at Ashlar Village. Develop, implement and monitor all agency objectives, standards of care, policies and procedures, as well as regulatory and compliance requirements with ultimate goal of providing exceptional care and enhancing the lives of every unique resident.

2. Provide direct and indirect oversight to clinical team. Recruit, hire, train, develop, and discipline staff according to established policies, procedures, and practices. Exercise expertise, critical thinking, discretion, tact, and sound judgment in addressing issues, conducting investigations, and enforcing fairness and consistency. Upholds a positive and collaborative work environment amongst a complex and dynamic workforce.

3. Direct, and at times provide, nursing services to residents. Conduct initial resident health, psycho-social and functional assessments. Collaborate with clinical staff, MRC personnel and families to develop a care plan for residents and recommend level of care required, review plans every 120 days for updates, provide and supervise medication administration, and hold daily office hours for nursing consultation. Assist licensed staff with verification of written or verbal physician/provider orders at least every 120 days. Identify residents who have chronic or acute illness that require immediate or on-going care. Responds to resident when a resident activates the call for aid system.

4. Leads the education of clinical staff; oversees clinical orientation activities, routine and ad hoc in-services, annual competency renewals, and Corrective Action Plans, as well as accurately reports as needed. Creates and fosters an environment of learning.

5. Participate in program planning, financial planning and budget process, and evaluation of clinical services. Manage ALSA budget, monitor labor, supplies, and operational expenses. Support occupancy goals through collaboration with Sales and Marketing.

6. Establish and uphold effective communication channels for 24/7 clinical operation. Proactively and timely communicate with other internal and external health care professionals regarding changes in resident's conditions.

7. Develop and implement organized, effective, and efficient administrative procedures; lead survey preparedness and corrective action planning, ensure ALSA compliance and accreditation measures are met, generate quarterly and annual reports to Quality Assurance Committee, and ensure policies and procedures are understood and available.

8. Lead resident and family care conferences ensuring coordination of services with resident, family and other appropriate individuals. Address concerns promptly and implement service recovery when needed.

9. Provide and review reports routinely regarding statistical data including the number of clients served and services provided and include any issues associated with provision of core service or concerns with the MRC or ALSA.

10. Collaborate with leaders and constituents throughout the continuum when residents experience a change in level. May provide guidance and assistance in securing alternate living arrangements if they no longer require or are no longer clinically qualified for current assisted living services.

11. As a leader in the organization, attend meetings, serve on committees and perform other special projects or tasks as assigned, representing Ashlar Village. Partner with Dining, Life Enrichment, Rehabilitation, Wellness, Housekeeping, Facilities, Sales, and Independent Living to deliver an integrated continuum of care.

12. Plan and coordinate monthly health and wellness presentations for residents in cooperation with Resident Services Counselor. Coordinate onsite clinics held by ancillary health professionals.

13. On-call requirement, and participation in an on-call rotation to provide leadership support for clinical, operational, staffing needs outside of regular business hours.

Qualifications:

Education: A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing with two years full time experience (one year in home health care or community health required) OR A diploma or Associate's Degree in nursing with four years of full time experience over the past 10 years (one year of home health care or community health required)

Experience: At least three years' progressive nursing leadership experience, with two years supervising direct care staff.

Licensure: Registered Nurse with valid Connecticut license
