Description:

The Risk Manager will be responsible for administering the Patient Safety and Risk Management program on a day-to-day basis which may include investigating, analyzing and trending patient safety events and data, conducting Patient Safety and Risk Management educational programs, complying with licensing, accrediting and regulatory obligations with the objectives of enhancing patient, visitor and employee safety; promoting quality care; and protecting the assets of the organization.

Position responsibilities:

  • Investigate, evaluate and analyze events that threaten or potentially threaten patient safety through the following: review of medical records, identification and interview of staff, collection of data and/or creating timelines, review of related literature.

  • Act as a liaison to administration, management and hospital/ambulatory care staff to provide guidance on patient safety and risk management issues such as consent, patient-family concerns, documentation, disclosure, guardianship, family conferences, law enforcement requests, policy and procedure development and revisions.

  • Lead efforts to increase organizational understanding of patient safety and risk management science and principles through dedicated educational programs for staff.

  • Actively participate in and provide support for patient safety and quality initiatives including RCA's.

  • Participate on quality committees.

  • Coordinate the selection, presentation and follow-up of cases to the Patient Safety Evaluation Committee.

  • Participate in and/or coordinate medical device event investigations and coordinate responses to product recalls.

  • Facilitate understanding of the web-based event reporting system and share such data with others that have a need to know, such as Claims Management, Center for Clinical Excellence, General Counsel, and Patient Relations.

  • Prepare data for annual insurance renewals for all lines of coverage.

  • Input and monitor data in multiple Trinity insurance databases.

  • Participate in Trinity teleconferences and meetings.

  • Maintain a close working relationship with Insurance & Risk Management Services (IRMS)of Trinity Health System.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or healthcare related field.

  • 1-2 years of previous job-related experience; 3-5 years preferred.

  • Prior experience as a Clinical Risk Manager or Patient Safety Specialist in a hospital setting is preferred.

  • Other: CPHRM certificate is preferred. Employee will be expected to take the CPHRM exam upon meeting the eligibility requirements to sit for the exam.

Hours:

5x8's Day Shift. Position requires on call, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation:

Pay range: $78,540 -$121,721

Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
