Full Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE

The Risk & Change Manager maintains the project risk register and drives mitigation ownership, and manages the change order process from identification through approval for a data center build. On a fast program, unmanaged risk becomes unbudgeted change - this role runs the discipline that keeps surprises small, priced, and decided on purpose.

Some of the key responsibilities you should expect are the following:

Risk Management

Own the project risk register end to end: structured identification workshops, probability/impact quantification with cost and schedule ranges, mitigation plans with named owners and dates, and monthly risk reviews that actually retire risks rather than admire them. Escalate top exposures to program leadership with clear asks.

Change Identification & Control

Run the change process across GC/EPC and vendor contracts: early identification of potential changes from RFIs, field conditions, and design evolution; change notice logging; scope/pricing review; and entitlement assessment against contract terms before commercial posture is set.

Negotiation & Resolution Support

Support the PM and supply chain in change negotiations: independent pricing checks, productivity and quantum review, and settlement recommendations. Keep the change log current from identification through executed change order.

Contract Compliance & Claims Avoidance

Monitor notice requirements, time-bar clauses, and documentation obligations across contracts. Build the contemporaneous record - directives, delay notices, photos, meeting minutes - that prevents disputes or wins them if they come.

Cost & Forecast Integration

Feed risk exposure ranges and pending-change forecasts into the Cost Controller's monthly report so the forecast reflects reality, not just executed commitments.

Process & Standards

Build Hut 8's risk and change playbook: templates, thresholds, approval matrices, and lessons learned applied across the program.

ABOUT YOU

- What we're looking for:

- 6+ years in project controls, commercial management, contract administration, or risk/change roles on major capital projects.

- Strong contract literacy across GMP, lump sum, and EPC forms - entitlement, notice provisions, and change mechanics.

- Experience running quantified risk registers (Monte Carlo exposure a plus) with real mitigation ownership.

- Change order lifecycle depth: identification, pricing review, negotiation support, and execution.

- Claims-awareness: you build the record before you need it.

- Construction cost fundamentals sufficient to challenge contractor pricing credibly.

- Data center, power, or heavy industrial project background preferred.

- Precise, disciplined documentation and unemotional negotiation support style.

- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, quantity surveying, or related field; site travel as needed (15-25%).

ABOUT THE WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role can be based full-time at the project site or out of our Miami headquarters. Miami-based employees should expect frequent travel to the project site, including extended periods on-site as project needs require.
