Risk and Assurance Manager - Risk Management Department; Home Office Branch

The Risk and Assurance Manager is responsible for implementing processes and controls to identify, manage, and mitigate risk throughout the credit union, with primary responsibility for Enterprise Risk Management, Vendor Management, coordination of the outsourced Internal Audit function, and Insurance Management. This will include assessing control structures within the credit union to determine where potential gaps and weaknesses exist, which expose the credit union to litigation and regulatory punishment.

This position works closely with the Chief Risk Officer to identify and assess current and emerging risks and implement oversight in the key risk areas of policies and procedures. The Risk and Assurance Manager will conduct periodic risk assessments and other special projects to identify and quantify control weaknesses, and recommend changes in policies, procedures, training, and other internal controls to mitigate risk. The position assists the Chief Risk Officer in implementing a comprehensive system, including software, policies, and procedures, for Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and oversees the quality assurance program.

Schedule: Full-time| Monday-Friday

Work Location Status: Fully on-site at the Home Office in Edwardsville, IL.

What You'll Do
  • Develop risk standards and best practices documentation required to support the risk program.
  • Plan, manage, facilitate, and monitor operational risk and control assessments, as needed.
  • Develop and maintain a risk and compliance repository for SCU which includes prioritized risks, controls, appropriate risk response, defined risk mitigation processes, and monitor effectiveness.
  • Act as the credit union's liaison with local, state, and federal regulators and enforcement agencies.
  • Participate in project management and change management activities where regulatory controls may be impacted and exposure increased.
  • Facilitate mitigation action where improvements are needed.
  • Assist in implementation of ERM and compliance software and programing. Facilitate completion of risk assessments for ERM.
  • Own and administer the credit union's Vendor Management program, including vendor due diligence, contract risk review, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Own execution of the ERM framework, including periodic risk assessments, key risk indicators, and risk reporting.
  • Serve as management's primary liaison and coordinator for the outsourced internal audit function, facilitating scheduling, information flow, and remediation tracking, at the direction of the Supervisory Committee, which retains responsibility for selection and oversight of the internal audit provider. Provide administrative and logistical support to Supervisory Committee meetings, and coordinate regulatory and third-party examinations as appropriate.
  • Manage the credit union's insurance program, including bond and other coverage, and administer the coverage and claims processes through the insurance broker.
