OverviewWe are looking for an RFID Solutions & Mesh Firmware Engineer to join our hardware team and bridge product development with customer deployment. This hybrid role combines embedded firmware engineering with hands-on RFID solution delivery, supporting Department of Defense (DoD) logistics modernization efforts.
Approximately half of your time will focus on developing firmware for LMI's Mesh hardware platform, including active asset tags, gateways, sensors, and secure wireless devices. The other half will be spent working directly with customers to design, deploy, and optimize passive RFID solutions in operational environments. You'll conduct site surveys, configure RFID hardware, lead demonstrations and pilot events, troubleshoot field issues, and translate operational feedback into product improvements.
This is a primarily remote role with approximately 25–35% CONUS travel to government and customer facilities.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do
Mesh Firmware Engineering
- Design, develop, test, and optimize firmware for embedded Mesh devices, including asset tags, sensors, gateways, and edge devices.
- Develop firmware for low-power embedded systems utilizing wireless technologies such as Bluetooth LE, sub-GHz radios, GNSS, and other IoT communication protocols.
- Debug, validate, and optimize firmware performance in laboratory and operational environments.
- Support hardware bring-up, manufacturing test, firmware validation, and field deployments.
- Collaborate with hardware, cloud software, and DevSecOps teams to ensure seamless system integration.
- Support secure firmware architecture including OTA updates, provisioning, and cryptographic services.
- Maintain firmware version control and support product lifecycle activities from prototype through production.
RFID Solution Delivery
- Travel to customer locations to assess facilities, understand operational workflows, and develop RFID deployment strategies.
- Recommend RFID hardware including fixed readers, handheld readers, antennas, printers, and tags based on customer requirements.
- Conduct RFID site surveys, RF coverage analysis, and performance optimization.
- Lead customer demonstrations, pilot events, and operational evaluations.
- Configure and troubleshoot RFID readers, antennas, networking equipment, and associated software.
- Analyze RF performance, tag readability, and interference to optimize system performance.
- Develop deployment documentation, site survey reports, hardware configurations, and implementation best practices.
- Serve as the technical interface between customers and LMI engineering teams, translating field observations into product and platform enhancements.
