RF/Radar Engineer - Senior

Location: Huntsville, AL; Denver, CO

About the Role

Phased n Research is seeking a senior RF/Radar Engineer to provide radar engineering expertise supporting the production of technically defensible threat-system parametrics for U.S. Air Force intelligence and mission-planning applications. The engineer will perform advanced radar analysis, develop and apply physics-based engineering methods, and provide technical review and adjudication of complex radar assessments derived from incomplete, inconsistent, or indirect intelligence information.

You will work with radar engineers, intelligence analysts, and software developers to translate radar engineering tradecraft into repeatable, AI-assisted analytic workflows. The role combines hands-on threat-system analysis with engineering method development, modeling and simulation, algorithm development and validation, and technical oversight of automated radar-analysis results.

Radar Engineering & Threat Analysis Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced radar engineering analysis and support threat-data package production by characterizing foreign radar systems, operating modes, and mission-planning threat parameters.
  • Derive and assess radar parameters spanning transmitter, antenna, receiver, waveform, PRI/PRF, signal processing, Doppler and velocity performance, integration, scan behavior, detection performance, and related system characteristics.
  • Apply radar equations, signal-processing relationships, antenna theory, electromagnetic principles, and physics-based modeling to derive technically defensible parameters when source information is incomplete, inconsistent, or indirect.
  • Analyze and reconcile intelligence reporting, signal measurements, technical drawings, schematics, databases, modeled performance, and other approved technical sources.
  • Evaluate parameter dependencies and cross-parameter relationships to identify technically inconsistent, unsupported, or operationally implausible results.
  • Characterize mode-specific radar behavior and determine the engineering implications of incomplete or conflicting source information.
  • Document engineering assumptions, uncertainty, confidence, source provenance, technical rationale, and limitations associated with calculated or assessed parameters.
  • Perform technical review and adjudication of complex, novel, low-confidence, or conflicting radar assessments and provide engineering guidance to less-experienced analysts and engineers.

Modeling, Simulation & Engineering Method Development Responsibilities
  • Develop, apply, and validate physics-based radar models, engineering algorithms, and computational methods supporting radar threat characterization and parametric analysis.
  • Develop MATLAB and/or Python algorithms, models, and analysis tools supporting radar performance, antenna, receiver, waveform, signal-processing, and related engineering assessments.
  • Establish governing engineering relationships, required inputs, parameter dependencies, boundary conditions, assumptions, and applicability limits for priority radar parameter families.
  • Develop engineering reference calculations, representative test cases, expected results, and acceptance tolerances used to verify manual and automated radar-analysis methods.
  • Evaluate modeled and calculated results against source information, empirical data, reported performance, and independent engineering predictions; investigate and disposition significant fidelity gaps.
  • Maintain technical and configuration traceability of approved engineering methods, algorithms, models, reference cases, and acceptance criteria.

AI-Assisted Analytic Workflow Responsibilities
  • Define radar engineering methods, decision logic, parameter dependencies, consistency checks, confidence criteria, and exception conditions for implementation in automated engineering playbooks and analytic workflows.
  • Translate radar SME tradecraft into structured, repeatable engineering methods with defined inputs, calculations, outputs, assumptions, and technical-review triggers.
  • Establish engineering reference cases, expected results, acceptance tolerances, and validation criteria for automated radar-analysis workflows.
  • Verify that implemented workflows preserve approved engineering logic and reproduce reference results within established tolerances.
  • Review and adjudicate technically significant discrepancies between automated results, source information, engineering models, and approved reference calculations.
  • Establish engineering criteria for determining when automated results are technically supportable, require additional engineering review or information, or cannot be defensibly determined.
  • Support regression testing and technical approval of workflow changes following updates to engineering methods, algorithms, models, or source information.

Collaboration & Program Execution Responsibilities
  • Serve as a senior radar engineering resource for threat-system analysis, engineering-method development, technical validation, and resolution of complex radar-analysis issues.
  • Prepare and present technical analyses, engineering recommendations, and technical-risk assessments to U.S. Air Force stakeholders.
  • Represent PnR in technical interchange meetings (TIMs), engineering reviews, working groups, and technical discussions with Government and industry partners.
  • Collaborate with intelligence analysts and software/AI developers to ensure approved radar engineering methods are accurately represented in automated analytic workflows.
  • Provide technical review, guidance, and mentorship to junior and mid-level radar engineers performing threat-parametric analysis and validation.
  • Support technical planning, prioritization, and resolution of engineering issues affecting production quality, schedule, and delivery.

Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in radar engineering or radar-system analysis, with supporting experience in one or more areas such as RF engineering, signal processing, electromagnetics, or modeling and simulation.
  • Experience applying physics-based engineering methods and analytical techniques to radar, RF, or related system-performance problems.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB and/or Python for engineering analysis, modeling, simulation, or algorithm development.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently perform complex technical analyses, identify and resolve technically ambiguous or inconsistent results, and document defensible engineering conclusions.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and results clearly to engineering, intelligence, and Government stakeholders.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience performing radar performance analysis, modeling and simulation, signal-processing analysis, antenna/receiver/waveform analysis, or threat-system characterization.
  • Experience analyzing foreign radar systems or supporting scientific and technical intelligence (S&TI), Department of Defense, or Intelligence Community missions.
  • Experience deriving or assessing radar-system parameters from incomplete, indirect, or conflicting technical information.
  • Experience developing or validating engineering methods, algorithms, models, reference calculations, test cases, or acceptance criteria.
  • Familiarity with, or experience applying, ICD 203 and ICD 206 principles to analytic tradecraft and technical intelligence production.
  • Familiarity with CSDB, EWIRDB, JMPS, TERF, USELMS, or related threat-parametric, mission-planning, or intelligence-production workflows.
  • Experience validating automated engineering analyses against physics-based models, reference calculations, or established technical criteria.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML-assisted engineering, automated analytic workflows, or validation of AI-generated technical results.
