REVISOR OF STATUTES

Augusta, Maine

The Maine Legislature is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Revisor in the Office of the Revisor of Statutes, a nonpartisan staff office responsible for drafting and processing legislation and maintaining the Maine Revised Statutes. This is a full-time, nonpartisan, senior management position.

The Revisor is responsible for planning, directing and managing the office, including supervision of lawyers, paralegals, technical support and clerical staff who draft and edit legislation, engross bills, publish statutes, prepare and index session laws and maintain Maine's statutory database. The Revisor also performs complex legal research, drafts legislation and other documents, prepares management reports and reviews work prepared by others. The Revisor works in concert with the Executive Director and the other office directors to develop and manage organizational relationships and policies designed to enhance the effectiveness of the nonpartisan staff of the Legislature. Both weekend and evening work are often required during the legislative session and depending on legislative or other operational needs.

A successful applicant must be able to work in a highly confidential and nonpartisan capacity; be able to prioritize competing needs and accomplish complex tasks in an extremely fast-paced work environment; will have demonstrated competence in leading and managing; be a forward-thinking individual who can identify and implement new strategies and technologies and procedures for accomplishing work of the office; and have knowledge of the operations of state government and Maine law.

Minimum Qualifications: Juris doctor from ABA-accredited law school; at least eight years of progressively responsible legal and managerial experience, with at least five years of experience at the management level in closely related field of work. Combinations of relevant education and experience will be considered. Strong leadership and management, communication and supervisory skills are essential.

Salary and Benefits: Salary ranges from $119,704 to $173,139. The bi-weekly dollar values of some State-paid benefits for full-time employees include $15.22 for dental insurance; 14.06% of employee's pay towards retirement; and, depending on the employee's annual pay, at least 85% ($508.90) of health insurance premiums.
