Responsibilities

  • Deliver routine respiratory treatments and therapies to patients
  • Monitor and instruct patients throughout all phases of treatment
  • Adjust therapies based on clinical protocols and patient needs
  • Reevaluate patient/ventilator interface every four hours
  • Facilitate the weaning process, adjusting ventilator settings accordingly
  • Analyze arterial and capillary blood gases and adjust care plans based on results
  • Initiate and maintain mechanical ventilation, guiding ventilator settings based on patient progress

Full Job Description
StaffFlex contract, Nights, 13 weeks $47.60/hr + differentials Open availability Recent Respiratory Therapist experience required • Delivers routine respiratory treatments and continuous respiratory therapy including aerosol therapy, lung expansion therapy, oxygen therapy, and bronchial hygiene. • Monitors, instructs, and coaches patients before, during, and after treatment delivery. • Prevents and/or resolves untoward side effects and adjusts therapies according to protocol and documented clinical criteria. • Reevaluates patient/ventilator interface a minimum of every four hours, responds to alarms, and troubleshoots as needed. • Establishes weaning readiness and facilitates the weaning process, adjusting ventilator settings in accordance with patient progress. • Draws and analyzes arterial and capillary blood gases, places arterial lines, and makes or recommends changes in respiratory management according to blood gas results. • Recommends changes in respiratory plan of care according to documented medical necessity and within established protocols. • Ensures the effectiveness of therapist assessment and reassessment by monitoring patient progress. • Makes and/or recommends changes based on pulse oximetry, peak flow measurement, chest x-ray, lab work, and other data relevant to optimal patient progress. • Initiates and maintains mechanical ventilation, determining or guiding the determination of ventilator mode and settings. • Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Patient care skills to care for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations are required.
