Full Job Description
Resident Engineer

As our Resident Engineer for our Construction Management Team in Northern California, you will manage the construction of public works infrastructure projects in the Greater Sacramento Region, Roseville, and surrounding areas. Working as an owner's representative, you will help clients navigate decisions, and keep teams aligned from pre-construction through closeout. Your leadership will help keep these projects compliant, aligned with quality standards, safely constructed, and built to serve the people who rely on them every day.

What You'll Do

As our Resident Engineer, you'll manage day-to-day field activities, contract administration, project documentation, and stakeholder coordination on projects that may include roads, water/wastewater, bridges, structures, and capital improvements. Regular project-site presence is required, so candidates must live locally or be able to commute to sites across the region.
  • Support Successful Project Starts: Provide pre-construction services including bid-ability/constructability reviews, pre-construction meetings, and bidding services.
  • Oversee Documentation Management: Provide contract administration, review contractor schedules, respond to contractor claims, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
  • Represent Owner Interests: Monitor field activities and contractor performance for compliance with approved plans, specifications, budget, schedule, safety expectations, and quality standards.
  • Keep People Connected: Coordinate with clients, owners, contractors, design teams, inspectors, subconsultants, utilities, and agencies while leading project meetings.
  • Solve Field Challenges: Address field issues, potential change orders, schedule impacts, and project risks with a fair, practical, solutions-focused approach.
  • Guide Field Teams: Coordinate inspectors, materials testing resources, subconsultants, and field staff to support accurate documentation and successful project delivery.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Active California Professional Engineer (PE) license. Candidates with a Certified Construction Manager (CCM) designation and/or an Engineer in Training (EIT) certification with equivalent directly relevant experience and the ability to obtain licensure may also be considered for alternative roles.
  • Prior experience supporting construction management, resident engineering, and/or owner's representative services for public works or heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of construction administration, contract documentation, RFIs, submittals, change orders, claims, schedules, and project controls.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and construction management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to build client relationships and support pursuit efforts for future CM opportunities.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel between project sites and offices.
  • Ability to work on active construction sites, including field offices, uneven surfaces, varying weather, and common construction hazards.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay Range: $145,000 - $208,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
