Your opportunity:

Facilities Management and Planning effectively serves the needs of the campus community for the development, space allocation, operation and maintenance of all infrastructure, facilities and related services. As the Residence Facilities Supervisor, you will be responsible for providing high level of customer service in responding to and being accountable for the day to day operations of the UTM campus residential component.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing building operations and services reports
  • Planning ongoing scheduled and non-scheduled facility maintenance programs
  • Coordinating appropriate emergency responses
  • Responding to incidents and notifying appropriate staff, supervisors and/or authorities as required
  • Selecting appropriate contractors and consultants based on work required
  • Liaising with clients and vendors to resolve minor complaints and address issues
  • Supervising non-USW bargaining unit employees
  • Applying established standards to ensure compliance


Essential Qualifications:

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years at a supervisory level in building management or building maintenance
  • Experience working with and over-seeing the work of external contractors required
  • Experience in budget management and procurement required
  • Experience with maintenance and renovations including knowledge of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, masonry and other trades required
  • Familiarity with contract administration.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a client service orientation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience with the Residential Tenancy Act (RTA).


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Supervisory experience in a unionized environment
  • Working in a post-secondary or research institution and/or university residence facilities
  • Experience with Work/Order/Maintenance Module and/or any other similar system
  • Familiarity with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
