The Opportunity:

Make your mark while you grow your career! Join our team as a Reservoir Geomechanics Engineer, where you will have the opportunity to directly impact commercial scale thermal operations (including CCS operations) and the overall success of Canadian Natural. You will apply your demonstrated expertise in data integration and the use of numerical modeling for Reservoir Geomechanics to optimize thermal operation strategies at our world class facilities.
  • Job location: Calgary, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 5 x 2, 8-hour shifts
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:
  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team environment to optimize operational strategies and/or development plans with the ultimate focus on maintaining and growing production, in an environmentally sustainable way
  • Quantify the Geomechanical impact of thermal operations on the reservoir and caprock integrity
  • Evaluate and quantify reservoir and geomechanical criteria related to CCS: containment, injectivity, capacity and induced seismicity
  • Design and implement Reservoir and Geomechanical monitoring and mitigation strategies
  • Linking field-based observations with mechanistic explanation of Reservoir and Geomechanical impacts
  • Analog data study and identification of important Reservoir and Geomechanical influences
  • Conduct numerical modeling of Reservoir Geomechanics
  • Geomechanical laboratory testing guidance and review (including a world class data set for over 8 km of overburden core)

What You Bring to the Role:
  • 4+ years of industry experience in Reservoir and/or Geomechanical engineering with a B.Sc. in Engineering
  • Expertise in:
    • Data integration
    • Data analysis
    • Numerical modeling for reservoir geomechanics
  • M.Sc. or PhD is considered a strong asset
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA
  • Demonstrated problem solving, communication, organization and leadership skills
