Full Job Description
Location: Hershey, PA

Summary:

Reporting to the Manager R&D Europe and working at the Technical Center, the Research Scientist position provides project leadership of some medium complexity initiatives, assisting on higher complexity initiatives, leading workstreams within larger initiatives, and/or leadership of multiple low complexity initiatives. Complexity of a workstream can be increased through technical complexity, manufacturing complexity, speed to market, quantity of projects, and cross-functional support. A low to medium level of autonomy of medium or higher-level complexity initiatives, or high level of autonomy for low complexity initiatives is required. A successful candidate is developing the capability to demonstrate and apply technical knowledge and expertise. This candidate is developing the ability to grow and share technical expertise within functional area and cross functionally within the organization and developing problem solving skills & the ability to think critically. This candidate is developing the capability to communicate technical subject matter written and verbally cross functionally and with management. This candidate is developing the capability to influence cross functional team members and building personal networks to provide solutions.

Specific Role Focus Area:
  • Leveraging knowledge and experience to drive chocolate product innovation and growth for the European market as a priority but also by supporting prototyping work of projects related with the international key markets when needed.
  • Participating in project design and methodology
  • Problem solving through application of knowledge and creative thinking
  • Ensuring project execution and technology transfer
  • Observing, recording, and evaluating experimental data to draw conclusions
  • Preparing project reports and presentations
  • Supporting technical capabilities of vendors of ingredients
  • Providing instruction to Technical Support employees


This role will interact and partner with:

This role will require 25% travel required (domestic and international).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
  • New product projects execution
  • In region product, process improvements, QA support


Minimum experience, skills, and education required:

Food Science or Food Engineering is desirable. The candidate will have knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), analytical techniques, chocolate, confectionary or snacks technologies, research methodology and experience in projects process. Candidates should be comfortable operating laboratory, pilot plant and plant equipment and possess excellent math and computer skills. Also should be familiar on New Product process.
