The Opportunity
The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University invites applications for a Research Scientist position on the Daytona Beach Campus. The successful candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research in wireless communications, sensing systems, and related technologies while supporting the department's growing portfolio of externally sponsored research.
The Research Scientist will contribute to the development and execution of federally and industry funded research projects, publish scholarly work, mentor undergraduate and graduate student researchers, and collaborate with faculty, industry partners, and government agencies to advance innovative research initiatives.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary research environment focused on next-generation communications, sensing technologies, autonomy, cybersecurity, and intelligent systems.
Primary Responsibilities
Conduct independent and collaborative research in wireless communications, sensing systems, and related technical areas.
Develop, execute, and manage sponsored research projects.
Contribute to the preparation of competitive research proposals for federal agencies, industry, and other sponsors.
Design, implement, and evaluate scientific experiments, simulations, and analytical models.
Publish research findings in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and present results at national and international conferences.
Mentor undergraduate and graduate student researchers.
Collaborate with faculty across the university as well as external academic, government, and industry partners.
Assist in developing and maintaining research laboratories and experimental capabilities.
Support the department's strategic research initiatives and technology transition activities.
Required Education
Ph.D. or other doctorate-level equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
Required Experience
Three to five (3–5) years of related professional research experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated research experience and scholarly accomplishments in a relevant technical area.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
Experience with scientific programming, modeling, simulation, or experimental research methodologies.
Experience participating in externally sponsored research projects.
Record of peer-reviewed publications and technical presentations.
Experience mentoring undergraduate, graduate, or junior researchers.
Ability to contribute to proposal development and collaborative multidisciplinary research initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
Wireless communications and networking
RF systems and signal processing
Radar and sensing systems
Software-defined radio
AI/ML applications for communications and sensing
Embedded systems and edge computing
Autonomous systems and intelligent sensing
Cyber-physical systems
Experience working with federal research sponsors such as NSF, DoD, NASA, FAA, DOE, or related agencies is desirable.
