The base salary will be $76,490 - $109,190 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

Responsibilities

The Research Scientist, Bioinformatics and Data Management, provides scientific leadership and expertise in the management, integration, analysis, interpretation, and visualization of complex biological and research datasets generated through the IMMUNEQUITY initiative. Working closely with the Principal Investigator, researchers, trainees, and international collaborators, the role develops and implements advanced bioinformatics, computational, and data science approaches to support scientific discovery, advance HIV cure research, and contribute to the development of equitable and accessible HIV cure strategies. The role also provides leadership for data management across the initiative, ensuring that data generated across research sites are high-quality, consistently organized, appropriately governed, and reproducible. Through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across Canada and Uganda, the position enables rigorous, integrated, and data-driven research across the initiative.

Qualifications

Education:

• PhD in Bioinformatics and Data Analytics or relevant discipline
• Postdoctoral training in bioinformatics, computational biology, virology, immunology, genomics, or related biomedical research preferred
• Specialized training in machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistical modelling, data visualization, or high-performance computing preferred
• Training or experience in research data management, data governance, and reproducible research practices preferred

Experience:

• 5 years of experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, or a related research environment
• Experience structuring, managing, integrating, and analyzing large and complex biological, genomic, clinical, immunological, or multi-omics databases and datasets
• Experience developing and implementing bioinformatics pipelines, databases, analytical workflows, and data-management systems
• Experience with statistical analysis, data modelling, data visualization, and interpretation of complex scientific datasets
• Experience programming in languages commonly used for bioinformatics and data analysis (e.g., R, Python, SQL)
• Experience supporting scientific publications, grant applications, ethics submissions, and research projects
• Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary research teams
• Experience working with HIV, infectious disease, immunology, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, or biotherapeutics research preferred
• Experience supporting international or multi-institutional research collaborations preferred
• Experience working with cloud computing, high-performance computing environments, or large-scale research databases preferred
• Experience mentoring students, trainees, and research staff preferred
• Experience leading analytical strategy or data-management activities within a large externally funded research initiative preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Advanced knowledge of bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, data science, and research data management principles
• Demonstrated expertise in structuring, managing, integrating, analyzing, and interpreting large and complex datasets
• Ability to develop, implement, validate, and optimize analytical pipelines, computational workflows, and database structures
• Knowledge of data governance, data quality, privacy, security, and research data management best practices
• Strong understanding of research design, experimental methodologies, and statistical analysis
• Ability to translate complex analytical findings into clear and meaningful scientific conclusions
• Demonstrated ability to support multidisciplinary research programs and collaborate effectively across diverse scientific disciplines
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify analytical challenges and implement innovative solutions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare technical reports, publications, presentations, and funding proposals
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to scientific and non-scientific audiences
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, train, and support students, trainees, and research personnel
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously
• Knowledge of research ethics, responsible conduct of research, privacy requirements, and research data governance frameworks
• Commitment to scientific rigor, reproducibility, data integrity, and continuous improvement
• Ability to build productive working relationships with investigators, collaborators, partner institutions, and external stakeholders
