Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Research Scientist. This position is a full-time opportunity located in Chantilly, VA.

Battelle's CBRNE Business Line is seeking a scientist with a strong background in chemistry, biology, or biochemistry. The selected candidate will conduct information acquisition activities and apply the principles, theories, and concepts of chemistry and/or biology to address technical questions in Chemical Warfare (CW) and Biological Warfare (BW) defense and counter-proliferation for U.S. Government clients. Please note that this is not a laboratory position - the role is based in a professional office environment.

The successful candidate must be familiar with open- and gray-source search, discovery, acquisition, exploitation, and analysis, and must be comfortable utilizing a variety of search engines and scientific databases to support mission-critical work.

Responsibilities

As a Research Scientist, the selected individual will support U.S. Government clients by applying scientific expertise to address complex questions in CW/BW defense and counter-proliferation. Responsibilities may include:

  • Applying the principles, theories, and concepts of chemistry and/or biology to address technical questions related to Chemical Warfare (CW) and Biological Warfare (BW) defense and counter-proliferation
  • Reading, analyzing, and synthesizing scientific literature to produce written reports on technical topics related to CW/BW defense, counter-proliferation, dual-use technologies, and medical countermeasures to CW/BW agents
  • Conducting open- and gray-source search, discovery, acquisition, exploitation, and analysis using a variety of search engines and scientific databases
  • Collaborating effectively within small groups or working independently as mission requirements dictate

Key Qualifications

  • Master's degree with 5+ years of experience, or Ph.D., in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field
  • Proficiency with scientific databases (e.g., SciFinder, PubMed, ScienceDirect)
  • Ability to research and critically analyze scientific, medical, and patent literature
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills, as evidenced by articles published in peer-reviewed journals, technical reports, theses, or equivalent work products
  • Experience in the national security, defense, and/or intelligence communities
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph

Compensation Data

Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $90,000 - $130,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
