Reporting to the Leader or designate and working within the context of a research culture and in accordance with established policies and procedures, vision and values of PHSA, the Research Projects Coordinator 2 works in collaboration with senior scientists and Principal Investigators (PI's) to manage various projects and grants within a PHSA Research Centre or Entity. The Research Projects Coordinator 2 assists in establishing budgets and milestones for various projects and grants and develops strategies to monitor the progress of projects to ensure project objectives and milestones are met. The Research Projects Coordinator 2 also reviews and evaluates project management methods and makes recommendations to improve efficiency. This position utilizes analytical thinking and strong project management skills to accurately evaluate the project as it relates to the Centre or Entity and multiple stakeholders and to coordinate effective implementation of solutions among departments. The Research Projects Coordinator 2 supervises students and orients staff to project management processes and procedures as required.

What you'll do
  • Contribute to the development of large-scale budgets and develops smaller budgets for research proposals and projects in collaboration with the Leader or designate; monitors expenditures for assigned projects, grants and core activities and responds to variances to ensure that funds are spent as planned and within budget and that project objectives are achieved. Provides updated budget summary/milestone information and prepares written progress reports with the Leader or designate for projects, grants and collaborations.
  • Coordinate and assembles grant application packages with and on behalf of principal investigators. Establishes procedures to ensure that objectives for assigned projects, grants and core activities are met. Contributes to the assessment and monitoring of project risks. Liaises with external partners and collaborators on project objectives and scientific issues and refers strategic issues to the Leader as required. Researches project management methodologies, tools and techniques for application in assigned projects.
  • Provide direction and advice throughout the project lifespan at all levels of the Centre/Entity and on multiple projects and programs; participates in initiatives in project management research, methodology, design, planning, implementation, integration, evaluation and ongoing monitoring.
  • Identifiy problem solve and works to remove barriers to successful project completion, with emphasis on resolving issues and facilitating collaborative relationships on assigned projects across departments, collaborators, funding agencies and external stakeholders. Identifies interdependencies between various groups and projects within the Centre/Entity and facilitates communication among task groups.
  • Evaluate whether project objectives/milestones are met in consultation with the department heads and leaders and identifies discrepancies for the attention of the Leader or designate. Recommends strategies and develops plans in collaboration with project leaders to resolve project efficiency issues where required.
  • Provide work direction to study clerks and other study staff, students, trainees and staff as required. Provides orientation to new staff, contributes feedback to performance reviews, participates in recruitment interviews, and provides mentorship to colleagues and more junior managers.
  • Identifiy work to remove barriers to successful project execution and completion, with emphasis on resolving issues and facilitating collaborative relationships within assigned projects. What you bring

Qualifications:
  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to completion of a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university in Science or Business Administration plus a minimum of five (5) years of recent related experience in project management and/or a research development management role and/or certification as a Project Management Professional.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts. This includes understanding how these factors contribute to current health disparities and barriers to care. Show a clear commitment to identifying, challenging, and eradicating Indigenous-specific racism and all forms of discrimination impacting equity-deserving groups within healthcare settings. This involves recognizing personal biases, institutional barriers, engaging in anti-racism education and training and advocating for systemic change.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within BC Cancer contexts found in the foundational documents including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study, BC Human Rights Code, Anti-racism Data Act and how they intersect across the health care system.

Embed Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility into all aspects of work. This means creating an environment where Indigenous patients feel respected, valued, and understood. Foster trust through respectful communication, active listening, and honoring equity-deserving people's perspectives on health and wellness. Commit to ongoing education and training on Indigenous health issues, cultural safety, and DEI principles. Participate in workshops, cultural immersion experiences, and continuous professional development to stay informed and responsive to equity-deserving groups. Provide patient-centred care that respects Indigenous ways of knowing and healing, respects BIPOC experiences and world views ensuring that care plans are culturally relevant and holistic.
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proactive interactions with collaborators are a must to perform successfully in this position.
  • Active participation in laboratory meetings and seminars relevant to the project activities is highly encouraged.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to beginning and continuing their personal learning journey related to Indigenous-specific racism and dismantling systems of oppression, as well as addressing racism more broadly. Shows willingness to articulate and share their learning experiences to contribute to a culture of motivation and inspiration among peers.
  • Demonstrates foundational knowledge of the social, economic, and political realities of settler-colonialism and its impacts on Indigenous peoples and equity-deserving groups within social and health contexts. Understands the impact of social determinants of health-on-health outcomes. Job Type: Temporary, Full-Time (Until July 16, 2027)

Salary Range: $76,111 - $109,408 per year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate's relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
