Job Posting DescriptionPosition SummaryThe Precision Vaccines Program (PVP) at Boston Children's Hospital seeks a Research Project Manager (PM). The PVP is a multi-disciplinary academic program that enhances collaboration between academia, government and industry to develop next generation vaccines against infectious threats such as coronavirus, influenza, and HIV as well as non-infectious threats such as vaccines against opioid overdose. Vaccine research approaches employed by the PVP, funded in part by NIH/NIAID, foundations and industry, include bench experiments, computer/in silico bioinformatic analyses, animal studies and human clinical trials.
The Project Manager (PM) manages one or more research projects. The PM facilitates and coordinates analytical support to research resource analysis and benchmarking initiatives and advises on issues related to process improvement and cost management. Guides project team(s) to complete scope of work meeting project milestones within budget and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities- Manages a project or phase(s) of a complex research project from initiation/planning through the execution of the research grant or contract concluding with project transition and close, ensuring a successful project.
- Identify and use appropriate project management tools and concepts (scope management, planning, budget management, risk/ issue management, communications management). Develops and execute work plan. Set priorities for tasks based on importance and urgency. Deliver project on time and within budget.
- May conduct and/or support complex qualitative and quantitative analysis of project data, summarize findings, draw appropriate conclusions, and effectively communicate results to team. Manage and direct regulatory/ reporting activities related to projects (e.g., IRB, updates/ reports to funding agencies, etc.).
- Manage communication to and relationships with key project stakeholders (internal and external) and institution-wide. Compose, edit, and deliver written and verbal communications. Facilitate group discussions. Keep team members appropriately informed.
- May be responsible or assist in the packaging and shipping of samples to other centers following the prescribed procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: - Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Management, Science or Business Administration. Master's preferred.
Experience:- Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience OR Master's with 3 years of related experience.
- 1 year experience managing multiple highly complex projects highly preferred.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple demands and projects and/or proposals simultaneously within assigned department/division/program and to persuade and negotiate with peer level department heads and/or with external agencies/facilities on issues and projects that impact assigned department as well as several other large departments/divisions.
- Advanced communication skills, able to balance competing demands.
- Highly motivated detailed and organized.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Advanced knowledge of PC- and Mac-based software applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and manual and web-based applications for collecting/ reporting data.
- Demonstrated ability to lead quality improvement and/or process improvement activities. For research efforts, ability to lead and conduct basic secondary research (e.g., literature reviews) and advanced quantitative and qualitative analysis
Licensure/ Certifications:- Project Management Professional Certification preferred.
