Job Description Summary: The research operations manager position is responsible for overseeing the daily research activities occurring across the UofL Health facilities to ensure compliance with governing rules and regulations and sound fiscal management. The manager will work to develop and maintain key relationships with research investigators, study teams, study sponsors, service line managers and practice managers across UofL Health to facilitate communications for a successful research enterprise. The position will work closely with the revenue cycle teams from both the ULP central business office and the hospitals to develop and oversee processes required to ensure timely filing and accurate claims processing.
Essential Functions:- Builds and maintains effective communication with practice and service line managers to ensure feasibility of clinical trials conducted within UofL Health, understands operational impact and resource utilization; develops and maintains relationships with key stakeholders across the UofL Health system and with external parties to ensure efficient and effective procedures are in place to support compliant operations
- Trains and supervises the research billing coordinators, overseeing charge audits, billing, and invoicing; trains and supervises the research finance analysts, overseeing the development of billing plans for research
- Monitors receivables and payables for research within the UofL Health system and reports to leadership
- Understands and communicates CMS billing rules and HIPAA authorization for research
- Identifies areas of opportunity and guide strategic initiatives to further our research mission

Other Functions:- Advises regarding CMS and CGS approvals for investigational device trials
- Assists with complete Cerner POM, Epic Research Record setup, as needed
- Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
- Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Performs other duties as assigned
Additional Job Description:Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance (required)
- Healthcare related, operations, billing, medical terminology, coding education (preferred)
Experience:
- Five (5) years in healthcare finance, budgeting, revenue cycle operations (required)
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience including training, oversight of billing and utilization of EMR (preferred)
- Five (5) or more years in clinical research (preferred)
Certification:
- Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) and/ or Certified in Healthcare Research Compliance (CHRC) (preferred)
