Responsibilities
The Research Engineer will apply their expertise and knowledge to technical projects, and find innovative, cost-effective means to conduct and improve research, techniques, technologies, and products. The role will be accountable for designing, developing, conducting, and evaluating new approaches to ensure research and project objectives are met. The Research Engineer will be responsible for associated laboratory work, and will generate, evaluate and analyze data, prepare and present reports and findings. The research projects require expertise in material science related to sustainable materials applications in plastic and cement composites for the production of products suitable to be used as feedstock for additive manufacturing
Qualifications
Education:
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline, PhD in relevant position preferred
Experience:
- 3 years' working experience in a related academic research environment
- Work on postdoctoral research portfolio, directly related to the research focus preferred
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Communication skills with the ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Advanced skills in software and applications supporting the research development and analysis
- Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Commitment to ongoing professional development with a desire to take on new challenges
- Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
- Familiarity with University research policies and practices
- Oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on proposal development and presentation
- Ability to work in a fluid and evolving work environment with changing deadlines and priorities
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, to work independently and follow through on work assignments
- Ability to adhere to legislated safety requirements and Western safety policies
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
