LLE is currently seeking an experienced pulsed power engineer in the Electronics and Controls Engineering group.

The successful candidate will design, build, and support custom pulsed power systems required for both high power laser systems and magnetic field generation. Working independently with scientists and engineers from other disciplines in a team environment, the candidate will write requirements, design and build solutions, and present project reviews.

Qualifications

Candidate should have a minimum of BS and 10 years of experience, or MS and 6 years of relevant experience or equivalent.

REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE THE ABILITY TO DEMONSTRATE A THEORETICAL AND HANDS-ON KNOWLEDGE OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Design, build, and operate high voltage, high current systems >10kV-DC charge voltage and >1kA-pulsed discharge current
  • Design of pulse forming networks
  • Fail-safe methods employed in electrical system design
  • CAD schematic capture
  • Circuit simulation with SPICE or equivalent
  • Component level design, assembly, documentation, testing and troubleshooting of digital and analog electronic circuits and systems
  • Data acquisition and electrical measurement techniques
  • Strong mechanical aptitude

DESIRED SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of printed circuit board layout concepts
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC techniques
  • Experience with the precision timing of devices and systems
  • Experience with vacuum systems
  • Project budgeting and time management
  • Curiosity and a desire to learn new concepts, skills, and techniques

Application Instructions
