Full Job Description
Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Research Engineer in the Process Engineering Group at our Reinhart Technical Center (RTC) in Richmond, VA. This position is responsible for supporting engineering analyses and capital projects with the technical center research teams. The Research Engineer will collaborate with chemists, engineers, and technicians to design, review, build and test chemical processes at the technical center. Additionally, the Research Engineer will be responsible for documenting process findings and recommending improvements as required. This role supports various R&D projects across multiple business units.
Your additional responsibilities as a Research Engineer will include:
Analyze process performance and quality data to troubleshoot product quality issues and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
Provide technical expertise to support production scale up from experimental scale.
Specify and implement new equipment such as process instrumentation, pumping/conveying equipment, flow control equipment, and more to enable research on new chemical processes.
Assemble bill of materials, write project justification, and manage execution of capital projects.
Facilitate technology transfer for new chemical processes as well as improvements on existing processes.
Manage projects for the technical center research teams.
Troubleshoot process and equipment issues at Carpenter or customer sites.
Communicate design outcomes and research findings in the form of written work instructions, diagrams, or visual presentations.
Skills/ Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering
2-5 years of experience in pilot plant, R&D, and/or operations required

Excellent attention to details and organization skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting
Ability to interact well with all levels of the organization and maintain strong relationships with team members, peers and internal customers
