Job Title: Research Associate (Audiologist)



Job Summary:

Nature of Work

The Department of Physiology and Biophysics is seeking to immediately fill a full-time (1.0 FTE) Research Associate (RA) position in the laboratory of Dr. Achim Klug. The RA will be an Audiologist with a doctoral degree (AuD or PhD) and should be proficient in project and data management and understand University policies and procedures in order to adhere to compliance requirements for the protection of source data. The individual should have experience working with older adults on routine audiological procedures including hearing assessment, hearing aid fittings and management, and electrophysiological tests such as auditory brainstem responses (ABR) and cortical evoked potentials.

The position will assist in the development of research protocols following generally accepted research practices in experimental design to ensure high data quality, and will evaluate data quality and generate appropriate summaries and graphic representations. The RA will generate and monitor COMIRB-related materials for relevant research studies and will take responsibility for the smooth operation of the laboratory. This role is active in disseminating data via construction of presentations and writing of peer-reviewed manuscripts, and contributes to statistical analyses in collaboration with the study statistician. The position oversees equipment calibration including determination of calibration needs and timetables, and completes hands-on calibration in laboratories where calibration is required.

Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversight and execution of laboratory functions including equipment calibration, supplies management, lab scheduling, and coordination of team meetings
  • Administration of audiological assessments with human subjects, primarily healthy young adults and older adults with hearing loss, including pure-tone audiometry, speech perception testing, hearing aid fittings, and electrophysiological measures (e.g., ABR, ASSR, cortical evoked potentials)
  • Direct management of COMIRB regulatory documentation for all approved studies, including protocol submissions, amendments, continuing reviews, and adverse event reporting
  • Collaboration with the PI on study design and experimental protocols, exercising independent scientific judgment in refining methods and troubleshooting
  • Ensuring all studies and participant interactions are compliant with University, hospital, and federal (45 CFR 46) policies and regulations
  • Recruitment and screening of human subjects across studies, including community outreach and coordination with clinical partners
  • Database design, data management, quality control, and analysis
  • Generation of statistical analyses in collaboration with the study statistician
  • Preparation and delivery of presentations at national and regional scientific conferences (e.g., ARO, ASA, AAA)
  • Substantive contribution to writing peer-reviewed manuscripts as a co-author
  • Oversight of laboratory and grant-related budgets in coordination with the PI and departmental administrator
  • Management and tracking of subject reimbursement (gift cards, cash, check, etc.) per university fiscal policy
  • Coordination of cross-study scheduling for shared lab space and participant recruitment


Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Doctoral degree in Audiology (AuD) or a PhD in Audiology, Hearing Science, or a closely related field, as required for the Research Associate classification per CU Anschutz Policy 4025
  • Eligibility for Colorado audiology licensure (or current active license)
  • Experience administering diagnostic audiological assessments and hearing aid fittings in a clinical or research setting
  • Experience conducting research with human subjects, including experience with IRB or equivalent regulatory documentation


Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from ASHA, or eligibility
  • Experience with electrophysiological measures in a research context (e.g., ABR, ASSR, EFR, cortical auditory evoked potentials)
  • Experience working with older adults and/or individuals with sensorineural hearing loss in a research setting
  • Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publication or conference presentation
  • Proficiency in statistical or data analysis software (R, SPSS, MATLAB, or equivalent)
  • Experience managing COMIRB or multi-study IRB protocols and serving in a study coordinator or laboratory manager role

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$85,000-$110,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
