Full Job Description
Role Summary

The Battery Remanufacturing Team is seeking a hands-on Mechanical or Electrical Engineer to join the front lines of electric vehicle innovation. In this role, you will be a key driver in the lifecycle of the High Voltage (HV) Battery-the most critical component of the Rivian platform. As a Remanufacturing Engineer II, you will blend technical expertise with a "first principles" approach to ensure our remanufactured products meet the highest standards of performance and sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Oversight: Own the components and assemblies for HV battery packs, specifically focusing on the transition from failed field units to certified remanufactured assets.
  • Root Cause & Resolution: Lead deep-dive investigations into electro-mechanical failures. You will identify functional issues impacting production and implement engineering solutions to resolve them.
  • Continuous Improvement: Leverage your previous experience to lead projects that improve battery yield, reduce waste, and optimize assembly processes.
  • Cross-Functional Bridge: Serve as the technical link between Process/Test Engineering and Technical Operations. You will translate complex engineering requirements into actionable procedures for the production floor.
  • Supplier & Lifecycle Management: Manage suppliers for rapid change implementation and provide a critical feedback loop to Product Development teams to prevent issue recurrence in future vehicle generations.
  • Provide on-site engineering support for High Voltage Battery assemblies and components in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, covering series production and legacy products.
  • Actively support the development and validation of remanufacturing processes
  • Perform technical analyses, document issues, prioritize and escalate to the appropriate assignee
  • Accurately and clearly communicate detailed steps taken to verify issues
  • Collaborate with the Reman team onsite in Kentucky along with Manufacturing, Process, and Quality teams to resolve issues related to failed High Voltage Battery assemblies and components.
  • Assemble, maintain, and/or modify test equipment and data acquisition systems as needed
  • Responsible for continuous improvement in the remanufacturing process by creating new tooling, fixture and eliminate production bottlenecks
  • Comfortable working in a small-team environment where individuals are expected to fill the needs of multiple roles to ensure program success
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • BS+ in engineering and 1-3+ years working with mechanical/electrical systems, hand tools, and test equipment in a manufacturing or prototype lab environment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on core engineering principles
  • Passion for working on products that involve the intersection of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering
  • Dedicated to expanding knowledge of electro-mechanical systems by leveraging a passion for diagnostic testing and teardowns to identify and resolve root-cause failures
  • Previous experience in engineering design tools Catia, Solidworks, Autocad or similar
  • Self starter, must be willing to run to and seek out issues
  • Experience with issue tracking and collaboration tools (Jira, Trello, Gitlab, Asana, Confluence, etc.)
  • Ability to view, read, and interpret mechanical & electrical drawings
  • Experience with MS Office and Atlassian (Confluence and Jira) software
  • Knowledge of Battery cyclers and hardware (NHR, NI, EA)
  • Knowledge of CAN/Ethernet tools for debugging purposes
  • Knowledge of CANalyzer, CANape, Labview or other diagnostics software
  • Knowledge of Python and/or C++ for interfacing with measurement hardware
  • Knowledge of high voltage batteries, BMS, chargers and DC/DC AC/DC converters
  • Knowledge of automated DC powered tools, functions, programming and usage
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
  • Ability to stand for 8-10 hours per day
  • Ability to lift 35lbs
  • Occasionally required to climb, walk, kneel, or crouch
  • Possibly required to travel, less than 10%
