Job Description Summary:

The Relief Field Sales Manager provides temporary leadership coverage for Field Sales Manager territories during planned and unplanned absences, including vacations, leaves of absence, and leadership transitions. While assigned to a territory, the role is responsible for maintaining sales execution, coaching, key account relationships, and team continuity.

Between coverage assignments, the Relief Field Sales Manager partners with Field Sales Managers and Sales Training Managers to provide in-market coaching, strengthen sales capabilities, support representative development, and reinforce sales standards and best practices across multiple territories.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Temporary Field Sales Manager Coverage Assignments: When assigned to a territory due to a planned or unplanned Field Sales Manager absence, the Relief Sales Manager serves as the temporary field leader to ensure continuity of sales execution, coaching, and customer support.

    • Provides temporary leadership coverage for vacant, transitioning, or leave-of-absence Field Sales Manager territory, ensuring continuity of sales execution and business operations.

    • Conducts sales meetings, coaching activities, and territory planning with sales representatives to drive performance and achievement of sales objectives.

    • Maintains key customer relationships, identifies growth opportunities, supports account development, and resolves customer concerns.

    • Partners with Business Managers, suppliers, and Sales Leadership to coordinate ride-withs, surveys, market activities, and other field initiatives.

    • Monitors territory performance supports onboarding and development efforts and facilitates effective transitions with incoming or returning Field Sales Managers.

  • Sales Representative Coaching & Development: When not assigned to a coverage territory, the Relief Sales Manager serves as a field coaching resource, partnering with Field Sales Managers and Sales Training Managers to improve sales execution and representative effectiveness.

    • Partners with Field Sales Managers and Sales Training Managers to identify and support sales representatives who would benefit from additional coaching and development.

    • Delivers in-market coaching and field ride-withs to strengthen selling skills, account management, customer engagement, and sales execution.

    • Reinforces company sales processes, training programs, and execution standards through observation, feedback, and skill development.

    • Provides actionable coaching feedback, documents progress, and communicates development recommendations to Field Sales Managers and Sales Training Managers.

    • Supports onboarding, shares best practices, and promotes continuous improvement in sales capability and customer engagement across territories.

  • General Responsibilities:

    • Maintains strong knowledge of company products, pricing programs, supplier priorities, and sales execution standards.

    • Adapts quickly to changing assignments, business needs, territories, and team dynamics.

    • Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and collaboration while influencing others without direct supervisory authority.

  • Other duties, as assigned by the jobholder’s supervisor, may also be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible field sales experience, including demonstrated success coaching, training, mentoring, or developing sales representatives.

  • Proven ability to influence, coach, and develop employees without direct supervisory authority.

  • Strong knowledge of sales execution, account management, route planning, and customer relationship management practices.

  • Proficient PC skills using Microsoft Office and other business software applications, including presentation and reporting tools.

  • Results-oriented professional with strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to exercise diplomacy, discretion, and sound judgment.

  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility and effective working relationships with diverse teams and stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and reporting skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and collaboratively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently and support multiple territories as business needs require.

  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a Sales Development Representative, Senior Sales Representative, Sales Trainer, Field Sales Manager, or in a comparable sales leadership or development role.

  • Demonstrated experience leading field-based coaching initiatives, facilitating training, mentoring peers, or supporting employee development programs.

  • Experience supporting sales teams through organizational transitions, territory coverage assignments, or onboarding activities.

  • Understanding of adult learning principles and field coaching methodologies.

  • Ability to hold a Solicitor's Permit.

  • Understanding of wine and spirits products, sales practices, and route-to-market strategies.

Compensation

·       Base Salary Range: $ 76,800.00 - $ 104,100.00 Annually 

·       20% Annual Bonus Potential

·       Mileage Reimbursement at 70 cents per Business Miles driven
