Position Title: Reliability Engineer

Employment Type: Full-time, Existing vacancy

Location: Ottawa (On-Site)

What You'll Be Doing

We are seeking a Reliability Engineer to join the Lumentum team in Ottawa. The Reliability Engineer is responsible for the qualification of leading edge optical and photonic telecommunication products to various international and customer standards. This is an opportunity to contribute to the development of products that are deployed in virtually every telecommunication system in the world.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Define, Plan, schedule, and oversee qualification and reliability testing on raw materials, sub-components, and finished products. Work with a team of test engineers and technicians to ensure testing is completed on time.
  • Work with cross-functional product development teams to ensure product reliability and durability exceeds customer requirements, industry standards, and market expectations.
  • Predict failure rate and availability for new products.
  • Apply engineering judgement to select appropriate tests, measurement parameters, and acceptance criteria to align with field conditions and target lifetime.
  • Analyze data and report on findings. Identify issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor and report on the field reliability of deployed products. Compare with predictions.
  • Perform reliability risk assessments for quality excursions. Apply physics of failure, acceleration modeling, experimentation, etc.
  • Work with external labs to arrange and coordinate testing needs for reliability, qualification, safety and electromagnetic compatibility testing


What We're Looking For

Education:
  • Graduation from an BSc. or MSc. program in electrical engineering, optical engineering, physics, etc.
  • ASQ CRE Certification, Six Sigma Certification


Experience:
  • Previous work experience in reliability, product qualification, failure analysis, test engineering, or process engineering


Required Skills:
  • Interest in how things work, how things fail, why things fail, and how they can be improved.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to scrutinize and interpret literature, reports, and data in order to provide meaningful recommendations.


The ideal candidate will have:
  • Knowledge of electronics, optics, and optical communication equipment.
  • Knowledge of electronic and optical manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of electrical components (e.g., ICs, Processors, Clock, FPGAs, Interconnects, etc.)
  • Knowledge of optical components (e.g.,LASERs, Optical Detectors, Switches, WSS, MEMs, LCOS, etc.)
  • Familiarity of international electromagnetic compatibility testing for communication systems
  • Familiarity of international safety requirements of communication equipment.
  • Familiarity with optical and electrical and measurements.
  • Knowledge of IEC, JEDEC, and Telcordia Qualification Standards.
  • Knowledge of Weibull++, BlockSim, Jmp and Microsoft Excel.

Salary Range: $71,450 - $102,100 CAD (flexible).
