DESCRIPTIONDepartment of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments within the UCSD School of Medicine with comprehensive clinical programs, extensive basic science and clinical research, and diverse educational opportunities for students, residents and fellows. The internationally renowned faculty play a major role in medical and graduate student training, providing educational and programmatic offerings that span several disciplines and provide diversity to meet the interests of a broad spectrum of students and scholars. More than one hundred trainees at the graduate student and postdoctoral level, as well as more than 300 professional, research and administrative staff who along with the department administrators interact closely with the faculty. In collaboration with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the Division of Environmental Health oversees the ongoing surveillance activities of the California Birth Defects Monitoring Program (CBDMP). The mission of CBDMP is to collect and analyze data to identify opportunities for preventing birth defects and improving the health of babies.
Birth defects are the leading cause of infant mortality in California and the nation. CBDMP has gathered birth outcomes data for over forty years and provides a controlled-access Registry that links CBDMP birth defects information to vital statistics data.
Under direction, the Registry Data Systems Supervisor independently, and in collaboration with the management of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), provides leadership for planning, development, implementation, maintenance and documentation of complex applications, including data collection, case review and classification, and year-end processing in the context of CDPH network and hardware infrastructure. Responsible for administering CBDMP birth defects data and related datasets and ensuring that systems are designed and data is securely stored following State of California policy. Oversees the integration of CBDMP systems with other State data systems when required to meet business objectives.
Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction to staff according to established policies and management guidance. Administers policies that directly affect subordinate staff. Recommends changes to department policies and practices. Identifies risks and responds accordingly. Provide priority setting and work flow analysis. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training or a Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, or in a related field * plus * Five (5) or more years of relevant experience.
- In-depth knowledge of various areas of IT. Broad knowledge of the IT environment. Has solid knowledge of information systems function.
- Knowledge necessary to design, set up, operate and correct malfunctions involving technology systems.
- Advanced knowledge of computer security tools, best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software.
- Advanced knowledge of secure software development. Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions.
- Has solid interpersonal and management skills. Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff.
- Has solid knowledge of related principles and concepts to provide solutions to more complex and diverse information systems issues. Solid knowledge of the applications programming development function. Solid ability to gather, organize, and analyze data in the completion of assignments.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Requires solid ability to communicate highly technical information in a clear and concise manner to both technical and nontechnical personnel.
- Knowledge of test application code in client server environment
- Knowledge of conceptual database design.
- Solid interpersonal and management skills. Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $111,300 - $211,100 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $53.30 - $101.10
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
