The University of Virginia's Medical Services, a unit within the Department of Student Health and Wellness, is seeking a Registered Nurse. RN employees plan and provide professional nursing services and patient care in outpatient settings. They ensure compliance with physician orders and follow established nursing processes, including patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation. They exercise judgment and decision making in their daily work. Work is somewhat independent and performed according to established protocols.
Responsibilities include:- Assess patients using nursing skills to evaluate vital signs, breath sounds, and any specific observations needed.
- Perform specific therapeutic interventions that assist medical evaluation.
- Read and synthesize information from patients' files, which may include medical histories, prescribed medications, vital sign readings, and clinical observations, to learn about patients' conditions, determine patients' care priorities, and prepare test requisitions according to physicians' specifications.
- Communicate patient status and changes in patient condition as appropriate, and collaborate with nursing supervisor to address complex issues.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Must be licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification required. Candidates will be considered for the following job profile levels:
RN (level 2) Education: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing, Bachelor's of Science degree, or Associate's Degree in Nursing & Diploma in Nursing
Experience:
Two years of experience as an RN. Emergency room or ambulatory care experience is typical.
Anticipated salary range for this position is $38-$43/hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
RN (level 3) Education: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing, Bachelor's of Science degree, or Associate's Degree in Nursing
Experience:
Five years of experience as an RN.
Anticipated salary range for this position is $43-$47.25/hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Physical Demands The job requires sitting/standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling (distance: 1 - 2 miles/day), climbing (steps) and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
