JOB DESCRIPTION
The Physician Practice and Clinic Registered Nurse provides nursing care to patients in a physician practice or ambulatory clinic setting. Reporting to practice or nursing leadership, this role assesses patients, assists with procedures and examinations, administers medications and immunizations, and provides patient education and care coordination. The nurse manages triage, follow-up, and communication with patients between visits and coordinates with physicians and office staff. This role matters because skilled outpatient nursing supports chronic disease management, prevention, and continuity of care. The nurse handles clinical documentation in the electronic health record, supports population health outreach, and helps the practice run safely and efficiently.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION
An Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
One to two years of ambulatory, clinic, or medical-surgical nursing experience is preferred.
MINIMUM REQUIRED CERTIFICATION / LICENSURE
Current state RN license is required. Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN examination is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. Ambulatory Care Nursing (AMB-BC) certification is preferred.
MINIMUM REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
Skilled ambulatory assessment and triage. Knowledge of chronic disease management, prevention, and immunizations. Ability to assist with procedures and examinations. Strong patient education and care coordination. Effective telephone and message triage. Proficiency with the electronic health record and clinical documentation. Comfort supporting population health outreach.
