Summary:

Vighter is recruiting Registered Nurses (RN) with a specialty in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to provide patient care support at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego, CA.The Medical Facilities in and around San Dirgo are rated as a complex medical facility, therefore provides care to Active-Duty Military, Veterans, Veterans and Family members locally and from surrounding states. RNs are responsible to ensure the safety and well-being of all care provided to patients in the facility including proper time out, consent, credentialed staff available, body positioning, documentation of implants or surgical hardware, medication administration, maintaining sterile environments, ensuring necessary supply /equipment availability.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Conducts initial post-anesthesia assessment on patients, develops nursing care plans based on identified patient needs, coordinate with ancillary services to assure provision of care, document all plans, assessments, and care provided. Provide patient and family education through hospitalization. Initiate discharge planning.
  • Operate and monitor specialized equipment including, but not limited to oxygen, hypothermia units, and various types of suction apparatus, infusion equipment, and patient-controlled analgesia pumps (PCA), epidural pumps, sequential compression devices and vital monitors.
  • Can provide complex and comprehensive nursing care for adult medical and surgical patients.
  • Provide patient education on health maintenance, disease prevention, and treatment options.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Document care accurately and timely in compliance with Vighter and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care delivery.
  • Maintain the highest regard for patient dignity and observe the precepts of the American Hospital Association's Bill of Rights for patients.
  • All services shall be provided by established standards, principles, and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations.
  • All Health Care Providers will document care delivered and follow-up care required.
  • Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain a specific level of knowledge of new developments, new task efforts, and new policy requirements.
  • Functional proficiency and ability to document patient-centered health care in the required electronic health record or electronic medical record, in the required format, in a timely manner, and in compliance with contract policy and guidance.

Education:

  • Holds an Associate of Science degree from an NLN accredited college or university and holds a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of California.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited university is preferred.


Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in PACU within the last two (2) years.
  • The contractor's credentials/qualifications are subject to review. These qualifications will be based on Joint Commission or equivalent standards for training, education and competency.


  • Must have and maintain one of the following certifications: Basic Life Support for health care providers through the American Heart Association®, CPR for the professional rescuer through the American Red Cross or the American Safety and Health Institute.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and evidence-based medicine.


Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:

  • The expected duty hours for this position are 8 hours per day and 5 days per week. However, this position supports 24/7 operations which may require work to be conducted at night and on weekends.

Travel:

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand or sit for more than 8 hours per day.

Work Schedule: Services Shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0500 - 2300 hours. Shifts provided between Monday through Friday will normally be scheduled for 8-hour period, not including an uncompensated 30-minute lunch break. In no instance will HCW be required to provide services more than 80 hours per two-week period.
