Using a best practices approach, provides nursing care to assigned patients/clients working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary care team. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates client care. Participates in discharge planning, functions as a client advocate and teaches clients and their families about illness/injury and overall health promotion and wellness. Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the client/family. Documents care provided and responds to incidents in accordance with established policies and procedures. Consults, confers and collaborates with other health care providers. Maintains and advances own clinical competence. Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

Practices within the context of a client and family centred care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for registered nurses and code of ethics. Practices within the scope of practice as set by the organization, as per VCH policies and guidelines/clinical practice documents and within own competence. This practice is aligned with the vision, mission, goals and values of the organization as well as with the concept of a client and family centred care model.

About the Subacute Respiratory Unit:

This unit provides specialized patient care for tuberculosis, respiratory illness and subacute medical/surgical patients while adhering to strict infection control protocols. In addition, it involves managing and monitoring post-operative patients, including those who have undergone appendectomies, stable orthopedic surgeries, general surgeries, and other procedures. RNs will perform tasks such as post-operative monitoring, managing IV therapies, administering medications, wound care, and monitoring for complications such as infection, bleeding, and respiratory distress. This role offers a chance to work with a varied subacute patient population, enhancing your skills in both medical/surgical nursing and respiratory care, in a rewarding and supportive environment.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
