About the Job

Job Title: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) - High-Risk Obstetrics

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, clinical Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our maternal-child inpatient team. In this role, you will deliver comprehensive, holistic nursing care to mothers, infants, and families across the entire perinatal spectrum, including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care.

Working in a high-volume, collaborative labor unit, you will manage low-risk and high-risk obstetric patients, perform continuous electronic fetal heart monitoring, execute rapid emergency interventions, and coordinate interdisciplinary care alongside obstetricians, neonatologists, and pediatric specialists.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Obstetric Care & High-Risk Management

  • Intrapartum & Labor Management: Perform initial assessments, monitor labor progression, manage pain interventions (including epidural care), and deliver direct bedside nursing care during vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections.
  • High-Risk OB Care: Manage complex obstetric conditions, including preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, multifetal gestations, placental abruption, and preterm labor.
  • Fetal Monitoring: Continuously assess, interpret, and document fetal heart rate tracings and uterine activity using standardized NICHD terminology; perform timely interventions for non-reassuring fetal status.
Post-Delivery Care & Care Coordination

  • Neonatal Resuscitation & Care: Provide immediate post-delivery stabilization and care for newborns, initiating neonatal resuscitation protocols when clinically indicated.
  • Care Planning & Delegation: Formulate, implement, and adjust individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with maternal-fetal care teams; delegate clinical tasks appropriately to support staff.
  • Patient Education: Educate and counsel families on postpartum recovery, newborn care, breastfeeding basics, and discharge safety protocols.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

Clinical Experience & Education

  • L&D Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of dedicated Labor & Delivery experience in an acute care hospital setting [Required].
  • High-Risk Experience: Verifiable clinical background managing high-risk maternal-fetal populations [Required].
Certifications & Licensure

  • RN Licensure: Active, unrestricted State Registered Nurse (RN) license [Required].
  • Life Support & Perinatal Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support through AHA) [Required]
    • FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring / AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced) [Required]
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program through AHA/AAP) [Required]
    • S.T.A.B.L.E. Certification (Post-resuscitation / pre-transport stabilization) [Highly Preferred]
