Full-Time Day/Night Rotation | Bethesda, Maryland
We are seeking one experienced Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse to provide safe, high-acuity patient care at the NIH Clinical Center. This full-time contract opportunity may lead to long-term or permanent employment based on performance and continued staffing needs.
Schedule
- Full-time, 36 hours per week
- Rotating day and night shifts
- Weekend and holiday coverage required as needed
$90,000 - $100,000 a year
Minimum Qualifications
- Active, valid, and unrestricted RN license issued by at least one U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth
- Associate degree, nursing diploma, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
- Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN
- Two to three years of current critical-care nursing experience in an acute-care hospital
- Current Basic Life Support certification
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification
- Demonstrated current competency in intensive-care nursing
- Effective English communication skills
- Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic clinical documentation
- U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card status
Preferred Qualification
- Current Critical Care Registered Nurse certification
Primary Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate nursing care for critically ill patients
- Perform comprehensive and ongoing critical-care assessments
- Continuously monitor patients and promptly respond to changes in condition
- Manage patients requiring advanced monitoring, complex medication regimens, and life-support therapies
- Administer medications, titratable infusions, blood products, and treatments as ordered and within the RN's authorized scope of practice
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, laboratory findings, hemodynamic data, and other clinical information
- Recognize emergencies and initiate appropriate interventions, including ACLS protocols
- Operate critical-care equipment safely and verify alarms and safety settings
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation
- Educate and support patients and their families
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
- Follow NIH clinical protocols, infection-control practices, patient-safety requirements, and professional standards
- Participate in required orientation, training, and competency activities
- Float to another critical-care or patient-care area when needed, provided the assignment is within the RN's demonstrated competency and scope of practice
Additional Requirements
Selected candidates must satisfy NIH credentialing, health, immunization, security, fingerprinting, background-investigation, and facility-access requirements. All required licenses, certifications, competencies, and health documentation must remain current throughout the assignment.
