Responsibilities

  • Provide care to antepartum patients and families as well as newborns in Postpartum
  • Promote patient/family centered care
  • Participate as a member of the health care team
  • Assist with and monitor mothers and infants during postpartum recovery
  • Educate patients and families regarding postpartum care and breastfeeding
  • Develop individualized care plans based on patient needs
  • Respond to emergencies and provide immediate care as necessary.

What we are looking for:

As a Registered Nurse in the Childbirth and Children’s Centre, you will be part of a health care team that promotes patient/family centered care and puts the patient at the center of the decision making process.  As a registered nurse you will be expected to provide care for antepartum patients and families and newborns in Postpartum.

What you bring to the role:

  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses

  • BScN preferred or evidence of working towards

  • Current BCLS certification

  • 2 years experience and ability to work independently in Post Partum

  • NRP certification mandatory 

  • A breastfeeding course is required (or a commitment to complete within 3 months of employment)

  • Current AWHONN or PPPESO Fetal Health Surveillance Monitoring Certification is expected

  • RNAO membership is preferred

  • Excellent physical assessment skills

  • Proficient computer skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to a patient/family centred care environment

  • Demonstrated excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team as well as independently

  • Well developed organization, communication, interpersonal and teaching skills

Work Schedule:

The successful candidate will be required to 12 hour shifts 7 days a week and on call. Schedules may change based on operational needs.
