Job Description

4South is our 63-bed, Oncology/Cellular Therapy/Hospice unit providing quality care to patients with medical diagnoses such as pneumonia, rule out tuberculosis, sepsis, sickle cell anemia, cancer and palliative care. Patient care needs are identified through interdisciplinary assessments, team care planning, and a patient classification system. A multi-disciplinary approach is used throughout the continuum of service with a special focus on pain management, medications, self-care, nutrition, and education. The team also provides special procedures including chemotherapy administration and monitoring, pain management, metabolic support, patient and caregiver education and support and, palliative care. We also provide quality care to patients undergoing chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation and for patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma stem cell/bone marrow transplantation (BMT). We also have medical and telemetry patients and nurses are trained for various research protocols as they administer the medication for the research study.

As a Registered Nurse IV on 4South, you will assume the responsibility and accountability for the supervision and application of the nursing process throughout the delivery of patient care.
  • Expert clinician who demonstrates a high standard of knowledge and expertise in a specialty as well as general nursing.
  • Consistently demonstrate excellence in all areas of nursing practice including nursing care delivery, staff education, research, and collaboration.
  • Manage complex, unpredictable patient care situations and are a nursing leader.
  • Serve as a resource to the nursing staff, the unit, the organization, and the community to promote the advancement of nursing.
  • Experience having oversight of projects, quality improvement work, or unit-based initiatives and demonstrating the ability to move work forward
  • Apply clinical knowledge regarding standard of care to consolidate interventions for time and cost savings.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of regulatory requirements in patient assignment making delegations of tasks, documentation and oversee care for the delivery team.
  • Demonstrate leadership through initiative, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.
  • Experience leading or supporting timely discharges, patient throughput, admissions, transfers, and overall hospital flow
  • Experience Precepting, coaching, mentoring, and developing staff

Qualifications

Educational Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN or higher required.
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license required upon hire
  • Current American Red Cross or American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required upon hire
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Certification preferred; required within six months of hire
  • National Specialty Certification (i.e. OCN,TCTCN) required
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years acute RN experience including 3 years experience in complex cellular therapy/hematology-oncology patient population required
  • Meets specialty specific clinical competencies for assigned area
  • Has maintained satisfactory Clinical Nurse III status for a minimum of one (1) year.
  • Have an overall performance evaluation of "Strongly Meets" or higher.
  • Meets clinical criteria and protocol of Clinical Nurse IV.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of applicable standards of practice
  • Demonstrate commitment to providing excellent customer service and the ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients, families, and healthcare colleagues
